Yup! You can bet on it!

because troops are tired of unreliable weapons jamming up, they want something thats gonna fire reliably everytime you need it too, no questions.

Alot of troops in vietnam used Aks they snagged off dead VC.

Another factor to consider, is many troops were sent over there unequipped, either no weapons or no ammo, so they are grabbing what they can to fight with. Since AK ammo is alot easier to find, it also makes it easier to keep fully loaded.

Its too bad the idiots on high cant get it through thier fat heads the statement the troops are sending them by packing AKs=

Stop manufacturing crappy pretty weapons and give us something that will work in the real world.

The 2nd picture is obviously Iraqi officiers teaching US troops on how to use the AK.

But I seriously doubt any most soldiers take AKs on patrol, especially at night. The main identifier of an enemy is often his weapon, you see that AK and "terrorist" instantly goes off in your head.

Where was that first picture taken? When I was there, I had a M249, I never saw anybody use an Ak, but I guess it's possible.

The first picture looks very much like a training grounds, probably where they are training Iraq soldiers. But there's a problem...so many black people...Iraq is not home to black people.

The other one is vague too, if I could tell if he were Armor or not that'd solve the problem.

Seriously, they are not using AK-47s instead of M-16s, they only use AKs when they don't have M-16s, such as 2 members of the 4 man tank crew. There was an issue with them picking up AKs for personal use since they were forced on guard detail.

In the end these pictures are too vague.

And anyone who thinks the AK is worse than an M-16...try talking to someone who is far more familiar with weapons.

My friend in Black Water doesn't agree with you he laughs at the AK...it jerks to the left too much making your aim worth CRAP.

Anyways...without better context of the pics none of this matters anyways.

Accuracy doesnt matter worth a # if your weapon cant be counted on to fire reliably everytime you pull the trigger.

Well you obviously don't understand anything about the development of the M-16 if you think it is not reliable. I don't know anyone that has ever had a problem with it jamming or being unreliable in any other way. You do have to maintain it well, but you also have to maintain your car well, as well as any technical device.

Actually, I don't think it's so much that anyone really considers the AK to be superior firearm. (Sure, there's probably some...) From what I gather, it's more a point of having extra firepower on hand. The old adage 'better to have it and not need it..." seems to be a prime case in point. Supply lines can be insufficient at the worst of times, and it's always good to have some backup until you can resupply. Especially when that backup takes ammo that practically grows on trees in the area! It's a fact, having a couple of pilfered AK's in the back of the Bradley (Hummer, whatever) has saved the lives of several of our servicefolk over there. IMO, they're looked at as a disposable item as well, easily replaced if it locks up or what have you.

the ak-47 is less efficient m16 i think,
but the ak 74, a newer modified version, with better accuracy is possibily superior than the m16.

Maybe the soldier lost his gun or damaged it and he needed an ak to replace it? could that be possible?

They M16 doesn't jam if you clean it. The problems in 'Nam had to do with the Army using a foul propellent and telling the soldiers they didn't have to clean it, because it would never jam.

Some soldiers are just picking up the AKs because they want to try them out and might as well. They wouldn't take them on any serious patrol.

Is that an RPK? Anyways, this whole M16 VS AK-47 discussion has been spanked so much already. The way I see it -- depends on the soldier, and the right, desperate situation. But if ya AK bashers are gonna bash, at least keep up with the comparisons -- There's AK-74M and the Ak-100 series, plus the AK-107 and AK-108 have even better accuracy than the other AK's.

That looks like a 75-rd. Drum Magazine for the standard AK. The barrel is a bit short for an RPK.

ah okie, also d'ya know if the AK-74M's are compatible with 75 drum mags?
-- or does it jus fit pretty much any AKMS-47?

I have seen high-capacity mags for the 5.45mm, including a 100-round drum, but they aren't as easy to find as the 7.62mm ones. Norinco has not started cranking them out yet I suppose.
