This is something I never seen before this year, but now I SEE it atleast 2-3 times a week and constantly hear choppers flying over my area.

So today when I heard it comming I ran to get my camera and took a photo, looks to be the same one most times but have seen slightly differents ones to.

I thought they weren't aloud to just fly over suburban areas this often?

Anybody else in Brisbane Australia noticing this lately?

There are some Army barracks around brisbane but I didn't consider them to be Major ones but I guess they would have choppers.

It's the Morten Bay area I see them flying over tho to.

Nice thought but I don't think they would fly them from brisbane to Pine Gap by chopper just too big a distance I think.

Can confirm that similar things are happening in some other major cities. Could just be a standard increase in air security around the nation. Although this does pose the question: why are there so many planes/helicopters going back and forth when barely any were doing so 2 years ago.

Hopefully nothing sinister is about to go down!

Cool that explains where they are comming from but why the constant almost daily flying over northern suburbs.

They fly that low over my house I could almost hit them with rocks.

Throw rocks and they might think you're Palestinian

Not sure of why they are doing these things, but I know it is ongoing from last year in a few cities along the coastal strip.

Maybe it's a similar thing to the U.S. where Urban Warfare looks to be how wars are being trained for today?

Two weeks ago here in Warwick we had an F111 fly very low over my house at speed, do a wide turn and then come lower again as it shot over heading back towards Brisbane. I thought that was very strange as I had only seen them flying that low on exercises involving other fighters we have in service around 160 k's West of Gympie.

interesting haven't seen any but will keen an ear out
!

i found this but it appears to be a different helicopter

THE impressive spectacle of a new MRH 90 helicopter cutting through Toowoomba’s skies yesterday is set to become much more frequent. The Oakey Army Aviation base will be a major training facility for the new helicopters which are designed to replace the Navy’s Sea King and the Army’s Black Hawk helicopters. One of the new machines touched down at the Oakey base for the first time yesterday morning.

www.thechronicle.com.au...

still its quite strange they would fly these in suburban Brisbane, im not sure of any significant army bases here. when i lived in perth right next to the SAS base this was a common occurance but thats a different story

also the only RAAF base i can find in brissie is Amberley just west of Ipswich

The tigers are being prepared at Australian Aerospace in Brisbane. We only have 22 of them so they might being flown to where ever there going to be stationed and as Tayesin said there based stationed at Amberly.

Might want to check if your in between there flight path to there training locations (firing range or any other army training location) as there gotta fly somewhere to train and there choppers, so there going to be low.

Army choppers flying over is a common occurrence for me and has been for about 10 years, so i wouldnt threat. When there armed and flying over suburbia is the time you should start asking questions IMO.

It's an EC 665

But yeah it's kind of strange to see something like that flying casually in the skies.

Last year I read that Amberley AFB will be moved to Oakey. I thought it was an interesting move given the traditional home of our one and only "Super Base" has always been Amberley.

I do see that Oakey sits about 500 + metres higher above sea level and wonder if that has anything to do with the decision to move it?

The live firing ranges I know of are at Shoalwater Bay and near Tin Can Bay just two hours drive north from Brisvegas.

I live in the town right next to Pine Gap. It is a very top security place.
And yes recently there have been military aircrafts flying overhead, infact just the other day there was a troop transport flying overhead. Everyone of my friends is trying to find out whats going on.

I live in south brisbane, not far from the CBD and today four military choppers keep flying overhead, first they head east and then about five minutes later they come back. They're still going, they just flew over again right now, in the dark with no lights except for a red strobe flashing on the last chopper.

I'm in Brisbane (Northern surburbs) and have noticed no military choppers.

Although every now and then I hear the beautiful sounds of F111's.
