Near the Sun. Not in the sky? Could be a language problem but they were apparently observing the corona (it's what astrophysicists do during an eclipse). A CME? A prominence? We'll have to wait to find out (or not) I guess.

I took a look at the SOHO and STEREO images from then but I couldn't see anything particularly interesting.

I think that they were saying that the extraordinary part was that this was the first time they were able to observe the corona for 40 minutes prolonged.

I guess that would be due to the obvious lighting conditions surrounding the eclipse.

Just a guess.

But that doesn't really make sense (unless they were chasing the eclipse in a supersonic jet). The eclipse crossed all of China in less than 30 minutes (china). The longest duration of totality was not quite 6 minutes (in Shanghai). Without the use of a coronograph , the corona can only be observed during totality. I suppose they could have been using one but it would have been kind of redundant and you can watch the corona all day with one.

I see what you're saying.
Perhaps they mean that the "UFO" was their own craft near the sun and they were able to stay there for 40 minutes, to observe directly.

They probably took control of all footage.
I would love to see the raw images.

Me too. It sounds interesting; whether it was an object or a solar phenomenon.

Only read page one and them went back and watched the video again. I would not be convinced of ETs if this is the "Evidence?" No pan away from the object to give any size reference, location in sky or any thing else. I say some of the engineering students at that acadamy sent up a science project.

OK so let me get this straight. That article is claiming that chinese scientists took 40 minutes of UFO footage. Well, not only have we not seen any kind of statement from the scientists, but we also do not see the video footage claimed to have been taken. On top of that, it's going to take 1 full year to analyze this footage and come up with an answer as to what it is?? WTF??

I guarantee this will be the last you ever hear of this. It will quickly and quietly sink into nothingness and we will see nothing of this a year from now. Who will remember anyway, except for die hard UFO researchers? Lots of claims and yet again, nothing for the public to see except for some crap footage from some bystander civilians.

+1 Spacemanjupiter, I fully agree with you.

It seems strange that Scientists at the Purple Mountain Observatory would not simply release the video without making an official comment. If they decided that an official response was merited, they could do so at a later date.

The "article" is bogus.
See this post for an explanation of what this is about.

1, "Unknown object"
The laboratory observed an unidentifiable object near the Sun, it's physical properties need to be further studied. It then quotes an American scientist who said how US SOHO telescope often observed unidentified flying objects near the Sun, and how the scientist thinks it's an indication there's other civilizations.

So it's a SOHO like object... meaning a peasant with a still camera would not even see it. I wonder who that American scientist was

UMM HMMM, basically what youhave here, is 1) China jumping on the UFO bandwagon, apparently to be really in touch with the rest of the world, youhave to announce UFO sightings.
2) China has just been introduced to the new world of computers and software... When was the technology export/import ban for China lifted? Interesting how we also have had Chinese hackers since this new found Computer technology has been allowed into China...

PSSSTTTT The 12 months is for the study of the SOLAR DATA not the UFO

You know what ATS REALLY needs?

A way to go back to the OP and insert updated data

This American "scientist".
en.wikipedia.org...
www.ufodigest.com...

According to reports, the U.S. meteorologist Scott - Stevens, said the United States, SOHO solar orbit near the sun telescope monitored regularly UFO activity, he thinks this is some sort of extraterrestrial civilizations exist.

translate.google.com...

Umm. That would be "ex-weatherman".

Compelling information, much as I would like to see where this goes I agree with everyone else that this will be the last that is heard about the happening.

12 Months. At most half of the time will actually be taken to examine the footage, the rest of the time given to encourage people (people that matter, that is) to 'forget' that it even occured.

Listen here bro, they are still a Communist Country, even if they do not call themselves such, all they did is change their appearance a little, they are still governed by the EXACT same rules they were governed by under full blown communist rule. Yes they are a very fast growing economy and they are doing things every day that make the World say, God Damn, these people have initiative, but there media outlets are strictly controlled, the internet is strictly contrrolled, all info in and out of that country is filtered heavily, and the ONLY point I was making was to say I would never trust anything they say, PERIOD!

No man, that simply doesn't wash,

This is a spin-off subject and I kind of started it. I'm sorry, I'll try to finish it.

Communism isn't the name of an empire, it's a political ideology, and a social economic structure. There are certain rules and guidelines to follow if you want to create a communist society. If you don't, yo no longer play by communist rules. If you play baseball with a tennisball, and you throw it instead of hitting it, you're no longer playing baseball, you're playing something else.
Same thing.
Censorship is not part of the Communist Manifesto. Widely practiced by Communist countries yes, but "communist" in nature no, so saying that "they're still controlling the media so they're still communist" doesn't work.

The same people are in power since the communist days, yes. It doesn't mean they're still communists, it means that they are turncoats, like so many other leader now in power in ex-communist countries.

Russia's run by a band of old KGB officers, and if you thought they're in power due to democratic elections think again.
Still, Russia's a market economy today, no longer a communist country, just as China.

And state controlled censorship still does not rhyme with UFO hoax,
