It's those vapours rising from below.

I keep hearing the chitinous scrabblings of tiny exoskeletons as well.

Silly mistake to make BUT it gives reveryone another 3 days.

3 more days? I knocked mine up within like 6-7 hours of the contest posting (and it shows).

So get to typing people! (sorry, my niceness quota was used up in a single post earlier to SD)

The best rule of all is that you can re-write your submission or put in a totally different story before the end date, which we now know is Sunday night at midnight EST.

You're allowed only one story each, but you can replace that one story anytime with what you consider a better effort.

If you've any desire to make some changes, nows the time to do it.

Man I can't wait to read your story. Chitinous scrabblings of tiny exoskeletons? I had to look it up, and even not knowing what it meant I was creeped out. Yours will be an interesting read for sure!

In distant times, before history began, men told tales of a darkness that seeped from the deepest caves on earth. The honeycombed crust of the planet held a horror which only the galactic alignment could draw forth.

It has a name and an army.

Cthulhu will be rising once again, his black beetle army to guard him on every side, above and below. They are voracious, these immense black hordes, their clattering wings, scrabbling claws will be a scourge unchecked.

Oh, yeah... 2 more days and, honestly, for this [TTSSC] contest, you DO need 500 words to be a winner, just like it says in the OP.

Rules is rules.

That was an awesome story zazzafrazz! I don't know what you were hesitant about. You definitely can write. I didn't post a comment in your story thread yet but I did star and flag it. I will leave a comment soon because I want to read it again. I was kind of distracted the first time.

While I was not originally intending to enter this thread in this contest, I changed my mind after ATS'ers jackflap and KSPigpen were kind enough to suggest so.

(TTSSC) Order 66 : Law Enforcement and the Fall of the Jedi

And, a hearty thank you, to intrepid for the edit to the title, to make it into an entry.

I just had not thought about the contest, this time around. Thanks guys.

Good question!

Here's how it will all work out:

Each judge has to wait until the contest is officially over in case some last minute entries get posted. As of now, there is still 8 hours left.

The judges, a panel of volunteeer members, will send their individual choices to me via U2U. Since they have no idea who else is on the panel, those choices will truly be their own.

As the judges ponder what they feel are the best stories, it is entirely up to them when to make their decisions known to me, so that can take a day or two.

When all of the panelists have decided and send their picks on to me, it's been my experience that they often choose a similar series of stories as the best, but always with a few variables. Because of that, I list all of the stories picked (in order of preference) and send them back to the judges (but still without names attached).

We then decide on which ones should be the final winners and in what order.

It's a bit of a process and often takes a few days, but I can assure you that the winners will likely be announced within a week. I know that sounds like a long time, but we want to be as fair as we can.

This contest is now closed. Good luck to all those who have submitted stories and thank you for testing your creative talents.

There are some bright stars among our membership, that's obvious.

I now leave it to the panel of judges to make their choices.

Now that this contest is closed, when will the October/Halloween contest be announced? There has been so much build up for it, that I can't hardly wait to see the subject!

I don't know because it's not my turn.

On the other hand, if nothing gets started after the winners of THIS contest are announced, I'll open it myself. So... bottom line: there will be a Hallowe'en contest no matter what.

Note:

4 of the 5 judges have made their choices and, once again, it's clear who the 1rst and 2nd place winners are going to be. The 3rd place is going to have to wait until the last judge U2U's me and I'll be giving that member until tomorrow night (Thursday) to get back to me. If not, 3rd place will need to be agreed upon by the other 4 panelists.

That means the winners will be announced on Friday and that the Hallowe'en Contest will hopefully begin sometime over the weekend.

Looking forward to the results.

Congrats to the top 3!

Can't wait for the Hallowe'en contest - should give plenty of scope for myself to write a decent story.

Me too... I've already started the plot lines for my story, which will, of course, not be considered a submission to the contest. (grump/pout]

And I thought you were ambidextrous.
