My thoughts exactly. I remember the power cuts in the 70s, it was great. We had oil lamps, the Victorian brass kind with the big glass 'bulb', normally only of ornamental use, and loads of candles. Just another reason why the 70s was the best time ever to be a kid.

With a more responsible head, heating is a bit of a concern. Most central heating systems are electrically dependent. Mine is, and I have no other form of heating. We had an old parafin heater back in the day, wouldn't fancy going there though, they can, if not properly tuned, produce profuse amounts of black soot. Besides, it's probably not even legal to stand within 3 metres of one in the Health and Safety age.

Might be worth investing in some thermals. Layers.

Which makes me think, could lead to a baby boom.

Bring it on!!!!

The majority of this country need to be taken out of their comfort zone and wake up from their big screen tv, designer clothes and reality tv induced coma.

Hmm only one hour? This will be an improvement for me. I've had a couple of powercuts this year exceeding 12 hours already. The last one was over 24 hours before they sent somebody out to deal with it.

BTW this is EDF if anyone is looking for a supplier to avoid.

If you are accusing me of being a Scargyle sympethiser, then you sir are very wrong in your assumption, I had more sympathy for the Miners, Steelworkers, Trainworkers, whom lost thier jobs, which thatchr caused.

If you want to discuss Thatchers reign as PM, why not start up a separate thread, I for one would be more than happy to discuss her impacton the UK, as a whole.
