People scream "freedom of speech", but for some reason, white people aren't allowed freedom of speech anymore. This is a prime example of what is going on in America! America is not America anymore. This is not the same country that I grew up in! Good for this man that he got this on film. It's like Seig, Heil in reverse! Whitey has no rights anymore!

On public school grounds, the right of free speech is curtailed. Several years ago, in the Poway Unified School District had to go to the Supreme court on a case involving a students right to free speech. The back ground was that the High school had allowed representation of those Gltg students to have a day and hang posters. One of the students, a devout christian, took offense and decided to make his own statement. On a tee shirt, he put 2 sets of masking tape and wrote out scripture and wore it to school. He was suspended, and the case went up to the Supreme court. Bottom line is that on public school grounds, the right of free speech is curtailed. The legal precedent is already set.

There was a thread several months ago about the woman who called customer service about her car loan payment being late, she got mad and told the guy that one day soon she would be driving a really expensive car and it will be paid for "cause we got Obama now."

In this particular instance I don't think this cop really meant anything by his remark, I think he just got tongue tied.

Here is a short clip of Bill Maher interviewing Brad Pitt. Now Brad is a world traveler and would know better than most of us here on ATS what socialist governments look like and he says that we (Americans) have nothing to worry about. And I have to agree.

What the cop did was wrong, but at the same time after viewing the clip I am also under the belief that what the person did was also wrong.

I agree with you 100%. My point is that an officer of the law should know under what statue he will charge you with.

Most Americans have access to public schools, libraries, and the internet. You don't need to have lived in Russia to understand the absurdity of saying the United States has become the USSR or Nazi Germany. You don't even have to have lived during the 50s to criticize the hysteria that had a nation accusing people of being communists, destroying their reputations and costing them their jobs. If you had asked me in August 2001 about that period of time, I would have told you how grateful I am to be living today, knowing that the US has moved beyond that kind of fear and ignorance.

I have no problems with what you wrote. Most is dead on. As to the above, what you say is very true. People have access to research material. However, then we have to analyze one's ability to interpret and understand what they are reading.

IMO, reading about it doesn't equate to living through it.

I can forgive an officer for not remembering why a certain law is in place. If push comes to shove they can always call in and ask. There are so many laws that it is almost impossible for us to expect they know everyone by heart.

After all, don't we all still ask questions at work?
