The Austrian Army used air rifles as did Lewis and Clark. People worry about gun confiscation but there are lower-tech options that can be effective, too. Something to keep in mind.

Would a coconut be much harder than a human skull? I wonder if this would have the same effect at a longer range..

It would definatly put you in hospital for a few days, if not in your grave..

Anyone know?

Yes, very effective!!!!!!

Also illegal to sell, buy or own one in the State of New York. Interesting that the guys shirt says NY on it though.

I used to have a sling-shot about 20 years ago - a pocket-rocket. Great device. I used to shoot marbles (glass kids kind) and they would explode on impact. Way cool!

I did have one of those rubber bands (medical tubing) snap on my hand, just before I pulled it up to my eye for aiming. It hurt a lot! Left a mark on my hand for quite a while. Thank god it was not my eye!

Illegal around NY though. So are blow-guns - which I like alot also. Very quite and accurate.

My father always said that a flare gun the type you use on a boat is one of the best defensive weapons a person can have and is TOTALLY legal. Of course using it as a defensive tool is not the intended us, but a good chunk of phosphorous to the abdomen will sure back someone up, and no gun charge.

According to him.

The guy in the video's name is Joerg, he lives in germany.

Funny seeing his clip here, as he is a really nice guy on another forum i frequent (not conspiracy related, but it does have a survival forum)

He also made a gattling slingshots, and even have a slow-motion setup for catching the destructive actions

He's a very nice, and very articulate person so im sure he'll answer any questions you may have.

Disclaimer - he does not sell his slingshots, but gives great instructions on how to build them.

Screw the slingshot this man is scary enough!
Though a coconut is not as strong as a skull. And elastic energy is nowhere near as powerful as chemical energy (gunpowder). You are correct you dont want it being shot anywhere near you.

Awesome sling shot. Light, Powerful and portable and the perfect fit for any B.O.B. You could easily knock off a squirrel or a rabbit with that thing.

Reminds me of my Marksman foldable wrist rocket that I had as a kid. My mom took it away after I shot my brother in the chest with an acorn. He had a third nipple in the center of his chest for days.
I never did get that back from my mom.

Not a good choice of weaponry and here's why: You have to stand
up to use it, that makes you a dandy target. You have to generate
speed by swinging it around which takes time, again making you a
target. You have to have good projectiles. some places just don't
have good rocks for slinging.
I'll take on someone with slingshot versus my remington 12 gauge
any day. It is a good hunting tool and cheap and easy to fabricate
without any tools whatsoever, so as a last resort I'd be making one
too if there no other weapons available.

Whoops, I did'nt bother to watch the video. i instantly assumed it was a traditional sling. i used to have a wrist rocket as a kid and was pretty sharp with it. Killed alot of small game with it too. Still wouldnt want to have that as a weapon against guns.

I know slingshots are legal in Canada (at the very least Nova Scotia) because we can get them at the hardware store here.

Some of that guy's videos are downright sleep-inducing. Why does he feel the need to explain so much? It's a slingshot. Forked stick. Rubber tube. Rock.

I get it, buddy. The rubber tube is thick. I just spent a minute staring into space while the video buffers. I don't want to wait anymore. I want to see some coconuts get effed up.

Well, having given it some thought, a slingshot has some advantages:

Free Ammo (how many will make their own bullets when TSHTF)
Silent, no muzzle flash.
Small, light and easy to hide.

I think he added some feature to his channel and videoes allowing you to jump right to the action shots.

I would link to the thread in the other forum is said forum wasn't uncensored anhd filled with general mayhem.

Actually, a coconut is harder to crack than a human skull...

A slingshot was a MUST for our platoon when I was active duty. The amount of uses is LONG. A MUST have for anyone who takes survival and offensive tactics seriously.

The only people here in the UK who use slingshots are anglers! They use them to throw maggots out to the centre of a lake or stream before casting off. Personally I'd still rather have gun, bow or crossbow than a slingshot or catapault.

For those who believe the slingshot is not effective against a gun, consider the following video, where an arrow is shot with a slingshot.

Well you have only one "bullet", but also the surprise.

I am still trying to assemble a complete set of plans for these air rifles.
They are high on my list of old guns to build with modern metals, materials and high pressure air-tanks.

These weapons would be deadly in the hands of a good shooter.

A coconut is harder, or as hard as a human skull. I think the same force is needed to smash a coconut as the human skull.

That guy shooting the arrow with a slingshot is slightly over cooking it's effectiveness at distance. He's only ten yeards away from that hay bale and yet you can see the arrow dipping before it hits it's target. I doubt it would have the power necessary to penetrate a deers skin!
