It's most likely a meteorite, if you stop it at 1:50 and slow-mo from there, you can see a pretty obvious burn trail. The camera angle seems to be more centered on the lights below than on the streak. The camera keeps moving to follow them.

UFO hunters explained much seen in the space shuttle footage... reproduced it even.

And recent discoveries of strange forms of lightning can account for a lot of what appears in the video as well.

www-star.stanford.edu...

Then there re meteors, satellites, space trash... lot's of stuff up there.

Sorry, though the UFO hunters debunk is good for some type of footage it has nothing to do with the phenomenon captured in the OP.

Sprites and jets move vertically so that can't be it either.

Like easynow said meteorites and bolides do not have a "swimming" trajectory nor does space trash.

Now, it can be a different kind of weather phenomena, or maybe the footage has been tampered with, or it really is a UFO. (not necessarily alien but unidentified none the less)

When the tether experiment footage was originally aired I about freaked, but that was knowing little or nothing about what I was looking at [and having just seen Independence Day]. As far as I'm concerned, the "discs" that are apparently swarming and passing beneath the tether have been more than sufficiently explained.

As far as the video in the OP, I don't know. Looks like a meteor... the weird swimming motion could be an aberration in the video, or real. Maybe the object is tumbling or spinning as it enters the atmosphere, leaving a corkscrew trail. Maybe it is a weird form of lightning.

What I found more interesting was the patch of land they were apparently focusing the camera on [it moved several times to bring it back into frame]... it seemed illuminated compared to the surrounding area.

Three pages going on about a meteor, or comet. When have we ever seen a UFO look like a comet, with the tail, etc.?

What I found more interesting was what was happening on earth. What part of the earth was the camera focusing on there? It looked like they were focused on some massive wild fire that can be seen from space with an incredibly powerful lens.

I do see clouds and what looks like the some areas of the earth being illuminated beneath cloud cover?

There are some fires raging across Greece at present so maybe that's it

All I can say is what in the he&& does it take for people to wake up.

When they say Humans are a stupid species all I can say is after 6 decades of observing here they did use the right word after all.

And I so do hate that word but.........................

This is not meant to be taken as nasty on my part but come on already.

Do you mean because some people don't think that's a UFO? I believe in alien spacecraft, visiting earth, etc. But personally I don't think everything we see in the sky or in space is an alien spacecraft, or a human UFO type craft, although I believe both do exist.

Maybe it was a missile launched from earth or a satellite. It looks so much like a comet.

I really wasn't sure what your post was referring to, sorry if I got it wrong

It would be nice if we could find out what part of earth that was, seemed like something was going on down there, like fire. Maybe that's what NASA was really trying to look at, the extent of a massive wildfire, and then a comet or meteor flew by.

If you know when this footage was shot we would know if NASA was indeed looking at a wildfire.

It didn't seem like the camera operator was at all phased or interested in the object that flew past his lens, not even a flinch.

I think it obvious that it's simply lightning. The type of camera being used is what is the problem here, I think we all agree that they are looking and observing the storms, than this lighting streaks across the sky. I don't get whats such a big deal here, I mean isn't it obvious that it's lightning!

Most of the NASA footage I've seen has had at least one meteor looking thing go zipping by along with the occasional floating bits.

I forgot about the wildfires... don't know how recent the video is. Shuttle is still grounded due to weather, so maybe it's shot from the ISS?

STS-80 was a Space Shuttle mission flown by Space Shuttle Columbia. The launch was originally scheduled for October 31, 1996, but was bumped back to November 19 for several reasons.[1] Likewise, the landing, which was originally scheduled for December 5, was pushed back to December 7 after bad weather prevented landing for two days.[2] The mission was the longest Shuttle mission to date, at 17 days, 15 hours, and 53 minutes.[2] en.wikipedia.org...

NASA's website has streaming video at
www.nasa.gov...

Much higher resolution is sent out over a satellite link that many cable channel providers carry -- or would add, if enough subscribers requested it.

Very interesting. The original OP's video as well as the extended version seems to include a lot of moving objects outside the atmosphere, as well as the sperm-like object leaving the screen.

I'm interested to know what the visual spectrum of this video is. Infrared? Thermal? Or something else?

I'm by no means an expert, but it definitely looks like we've got really active skies above us.

Looks like a storm or something from space, that the camera focuses in on, and while a meteor or something passes through the atmosphere during the shot...hints the brightness and the tail burnoff....

A camera "set up for a giant ufo"? Hardly

I just used the youtube video title for the thread title, as I always do. I present the topics as I find them and then leave the rest to discussion.
