Something is most definitely NOT afoot people.

What we currently call the human race is a culmination of many thousands of years of evolution by survival of the fittest.

Survival being the keyword here. Just because within the last few hundred years we now have the effortless luxuries of:

  1. Running water
  2. Electricity
  3. Heating/Cooling
  4. Transportation
  5. Groceries
  6. Entertainment

Does not mean that survival is not INGRAINED in our human instincts. A hundred years of those luxuries in no way compares to the many years we have evolved to where we are today.

And movies and books regarding cataclysms are most definitely not a novel concept.

In all likelihood nothing will happen and the thousands if not millions of us that are preparing for a SHTF situation will NEVER have the need for it. It's best to come to terms with it, it's science and it's psychology.

But that being said I tend to trust my instincts and be prepared nonetheless.

Take care!

Hollywood sells what you respond to.

You are responing to hollywood, so hollywood responds to you.

It's a feedback loop, like an amplifier, cranking up societys fears into a screaching howl of feedback.

Whatever sold last time sells more next time, until the bubble bursts.

We all live in a very unnatural and very impersonal society, many of us harbor deep desires for something better which can only be if this life goes away, or you chuck it all and leave.

You stated that you didnt think that most of humanity doesnt have the skills to survive a worldwide cataclysmic event due to lack of basic skills like farming and curing meat etc. I would have to respectfully disagree (with provisions).
A very large portion of the population of the world uses those skills every single day to survive. People all over the world MUST have these skills to feed their families. I think it is safe to say in fact that at least half the people in the world grow/raise their own food.
In my opinion it will be those people who live in the so called civilized world who will be decimated by a calamity. Cities, with much larger population densities than rural areas would be leveled by both disease or nuclear or conventional bombing. History has proven this time and time again, Dresden,Hiroshima,New York, etc. Virulent disease, chemical attacks, and even sickness caused by lack of proper water purification, sewege, corpse disposal and the like are magnified greatly by simply having so many people in one place. This also is a clear tactical advantage.
These facts coupled with the reality that city people just generally lack the knowledge to grow their own food, purify questionable water sources, cure meat, basic animal husbandry, and whatnot, virtually assure the deaths of urban populations by the millions. While rural people in so called 3rd world countries may very well continue basic subsistance survival, as they would anyway and have for centuries. The poor and meek may very well inherit the earth!!

whys it that they always have to tell us about these events beforehand? they don't have to say its the reality for it is not since it hasn't happened yet. and to reveal that it's a plan would possibly thwart it and nullify the need to inform us. and yet, we had katrina (which i believe haarp might've been involved in), 9-11, and god knows how many more events that had some obscure media program paralleling it beforehand. to say that it is done to mock at us is a childish malice. nor do these events need more foretelling to make it any more convincing than when they actually happen in your face. so anybody have any clues as to why? my theory is that they are given the right to govern us from a higher power and when this alliance was made they were sworn not to hide anything from us. its a silly explanation so lets see you do one better.

it wouldn't be considered cataclysmic if all the humanity is easily getting through it. duh. a cataclysm would be an event that destroys the system so advanced and reliable that the people who depend on it no longer need their own survival skills to stay alive. a system so far developed, in-fact, that most who depend on it have forgotten the basic skills yet still thrive under it. we don't need to know farming, fishing or any of these primitive skills because our civilization is too advanced to call for the need of it. uh... i forget why i'm explaining this. oh well i typed it and you read it. its done.

no replies all day to my previous post? did i kill this thread?
