You stated that you didnt think that most of humanity doesnt have the skills to survive a worldwide cataclysmic event due to lack of basic
skills like farming and curing meat etc. I would have to respectfully disagree (with provisions).
A very large portion of the population of the world uses those skills every single day to survive. People all over the world MUST have these skills
to feed their families. I think it is safe to say in fact that at least half the people in the world grow/raise their own food.
In my opinion it will be those people who live in the so called civilized world who will be decimated by a calamity. Cities, with much larger
population densities than rural areas would be leveled by both disease or nuclear or conventional bombing. History has proven this time and time
again, Dresden,Hiroshima,New York, etc. Virulent disease, chemical attacks, and even sickness caused by lack of proper water purification,
sewege, corpse disposal and the like are magnified greatly by simply having so many people in one place. This also is a clear tactical advantage.
These facts coupled with the reality that city people just generally lack the knowledge to grow their own food, purify questionable water
sources, cure meat, basic animal husbandry, and whatnot, virtually assure the deaths of urban populations by the millions. While rural people in so
called 3rd world countries may very well continue basic subsistance survival, as they would anyway and have for centuries. The poor and meek may very
well inherit the earth!!
