Lab creates fake DNA evidence.

According to the Tel Aviv-based life science company, Nucleix, a sample of DNA matching any profile can be constructed using basic equipment and access to DNA or a DNA profile in a database without obtaining any tissue from that person.

This undermines what has long been considered as irrefutable proof in the investigation of criminal cases.

So what would be the purpose of a DNA database? Such a database is just as likely to be used to frame an innocent person as it is to convict a criminal.

I'm surprised there has been no response to this issue. How many people have already been stiched up by fabricated DNA/Forensic evidence?

"In my experience, the people that we arrest for murder, rape, robbery, child molestation, generally don't have a very good foundation in molecular biology"
LOL, quote of the day. Do you honestly think anyone's been wrongfully accused because someone artificially synthesized their DNA? I'm pretty sure I could pull this off myself, but lots of people would quickly find out if I was misusing my lab's equipment after hours to create fake DNA evidence. There are a lot easier ways to plant DNA-containing evidence, but that's actually the easy part; the hard part is making sure not to leave your own evidence in the process of planting it. As the researchers noted, this technique is also detectable by searching for a lack of DNA methylation, and I can think of some even simpler separation techniques applied to the samples before DNA extraction that would remove any fake DNA implanted so crudely into the blood sample, though you'd need a decent sample size to start with.
