LOL, quote of the day. Do you honestly think anyone's been wrongfully accused because someone artificially synthesized their DNA? I'm pretty sure
I could pull this off myself, but lots of people would quickly find out if I was misusing my lab's equipment after hours to create fake DNA evidence.
There are a lot easier ways to plant DNA-containing evidence, but that's actually the easy part; the hard part is making sure not to leave your own
evidence in the process of planting it. As the researchers noted, this technique is also detectable by searching for a lack of DNA methylation, and I
can think of some even simpler separation techniques applied to the samples before DNA extraction that would remove any fake DNA implanted so crudely
into the blood sample, though you'd need a decent sample size to start with.
