I was just thinking, there are artist colonies, nudist colonies, religious colonies, hippie colonies, so on and so forth. So when I just did a search for "Survivalist colonies" what did I get, pretty much just the "The Colony" tv show for the most part, but not any real survivalist colony information. Anyways are there any out there? Would people be interested in starting one up or joining one? Run your thoughts.

It's interesting but I think we'd have to have a full survivalist experience. This is an Animal Rights group colony by the looks of the search (By the way your link doesnt seem to work correctly.). I feel bad about the conditions of mass farming and all that. But regular farming and eating meat I'm good with. Thank you for contributing though.

The web site says they are a nuclear survival group building a 200 person bomb shelter. I don't know about the rest. I came across the webpage a few years ago when i was researching underground homes and shelters.

PS I fixed the link in my previous post, use the bottom ones.

It's pretty net but not exactly what I am looking for. This is a survival colony seemingly open for exactly when TSHTF. But it isn't open for allowing members to go there to live that lifestyle in the meantime.

Basically I'm looking for somewhere where it's a community commited to living together in preparation of survival. Doing the things we would need to do similar as if actual world breaking events happened.

If it doesnt exist I think I'll try to find some land in texas to make it

i know of a couple of them, but their religous oriented..sects.

The best plan is to get like minded folks around you and start one. Purchase, co-op, a cpl acres where you want to set up camp snoopy.

Build sustainably. I have links for inexpensive yet durable buildings/water tanks. And a plan for food , fish and veggies, growing using Aquaponics.

You might try searching homesteading communities or self sufficiency communities. Or replace the word community with group? I -know- I've seem homesteading/preparedness communities for my area (the ozarks) online. I will definitely try to find those links for yall. If it helps, I -believe- I found them when I was doing a search for dexter cattle (small, very popular in our types of communities) or jacob sheep, same thing, people who believe in preparing like that breed. It's ancient, hardy and gives good milk. I'll post if I find it.

Did you search ATS? I have seen several groups mentioned in the posts on ATS. I think Arizona / New Mexico area had some communities.

This is a terrific subject, although to be a truly SHTF community, you would have to appear normal to all outward appearances, otherwise you make a prime target in the first waves of invasion/looting/round up.

My internal picture of such a community is a subdivision built with reinforced Masonary and Faraday cage style homes, off-grid technology disguised as "Green" buildings, and like-minded individuals growing small community garden plots. Controlled ingress and egress that could easily be secured and guarded. Storm shelters built that could double as bomb shelters. The entire community would need to be 10-15 miles from the center of town, to provide ample distance from a Nuclear strike. The people would need to keep their preparations secret from the general public, and everyone would need to be trained in certain aspects of defense. Weapons and ammunition stored in individual homes. Community outings could double as training in Hiking, Survival Skills, Hunting, Fishing, etc. The make up of the colony should reflect a good cross-section of skill sets: doctors, nurses, engineers, carpenters, etc.

There are the Lakota Indians they have a movement to succeed from the USA. And the libertarians.

I bought 106 ac in North Carolina. I am temped to start one. pool resources to pay off the mortgage and fence the place in. Good place for windmills/ pond to pond generators, Woods, Gravel and clay beds even has river transport to the sea. The locals include carpenters, electricians, farmers, heavy equipment construction... and of course the local hunt club I lease to. There is an additional 400ac up the road that maybe for sale.

I posted a similar thread quite some time ago regarding "Community"

Community - Before/During/After TEOTWAWKI

This is also something my SO and I have discussed at length. One place you might check out is Survival Blog. I'm still in the process of reading all the information contained in that site and I've been reading it every day for over a month now, lol

As someone else mentioned, find like minded people in your area if you can. From what I've read that seems to be the easiest route to go.

One of the things that makes me hesitant about creating a "Survival Community" is that it will turn into the next "Ruby Ridge" or "Waco" incident. I DO NOT trust our Government. Period. They have alot more resources at hand to make something appear as something that it's not in order to curb public outrage.

IMO ... #1 LAW of Survival Groups/Comminities/Etc. SECRECY. Do not let ANYONE outside of your circle know that it is what it is.

Looking in the links some of you provided. Thanks for the information as of far. I partially got laughing starting to play Fallout3. Since at the start of the game you live in a fallout shelter too.

I might be interested in a NC retreat community. I vacation there every chance I get, have come close to buying a few pieces of property there. My background is in industrial/military construction so I can be pretty handy in the development phase. My brothers keep trying to get me to do a family development on our land in AR, but they don't want to share any of the financial burden, plus they are not exactly desirable as group-mates.
Also I have built a portable wind system as well as a portable hydro so I have some experience there.

would be cool if you can sign up for a " survivalist community" in your local area ...needs funding and expertise....(given as a result of membership)
1. path to membership is financial.
2. expertise in the "survival fields".
