So, if an illegal alien went to the ER, having a heart attack, you advocate they would be turned away?

It's so easy to demonize the big bad brown illegal aliens. The cause of all our problems. Americans aren't alone in this either, it's the same here in the UK.

Having lived as an illegal alien in the USA for over 25 years let me assure I never qualified for any welfare. Illegal aliens DO NOT GET WELFARE!

But then again most of you wouldn't have minded if I did, afterall, I am not Mexican, and that's good enough for most of you.

Thank you. I have not qualified nor have applied for welfare ever!!! Some of us really just want to work here. Hell me and my family even found a law here in Texas that enables us to pay taxes. When me and my dad pay for taxes(we are the only ones that work) we dont expect nothing back. When we need to go to the doctor we pay for medicine and everything out of our pocket. So why shouldn't we be able to live here. I pay for my Uni classes and dont apply for any government help. Why is it my fault that white American kids cant go to the same school as me if their grades aren't as good as mine?

I don't think you got the intent of my signature. It is attempting to point out the irony that tobacco companies are still allowed by the govt to sell because they put a warning label on their product that it causes death. But other products get yanked from the market for far less. Why can't Zicam put a warning on their product than less than 1% lose their sense of smell?

Anyway I am not trying to derail the thread. I think it's a great idea to send illegals to where they can get awesome free health care.

Private hospitals, much like public hospitals, are unable to refuse anyone if come through the ER. This is why a lot of private hospitals have either reduced their overhead substantially, or have shut down.

I don't think it's really an issue of paying taxes, I think it's more of an issue of taking the right steps to come here legally. I understand that many will make the argument that the first european settlers were illegal immigrants, however, I must state that nothing is legal nor illegal if there is no set form of law to be followed.

As for illegal immigrants, it doesn't matter what race you are. If several million immigrants took the steps to come to the United States legally, what makes illegal immigrants so entitled to the same respects and rights, as those who took the time and initiative to come to the United States lawfully? If you're wondering about my background, I am not of European heritage, and my parents came here as immigrants, legally.

I understand. I agree in an ideal world everyone would immigrate legally.

The process for a mexican however to come to the United States legally is fraught with expenses and paperwork which is out of reach to most.

When I first realized that my status in the USA was not legal I researched what I would have to do to become legal, to get a green card. The process would have cost me thousands of dollars and years of paperwork. Now, don't misunderstand I had the money, I chose not to go through with it. At the time I really had no motivation to do so. I was going to college, working, living like every other American I knew, as far as I was concerned I was American in everything except paper.

Things change, and evertually I had no choice. After 9/11 questions were asked, documents were more closely checked. Basically it was just a matter of time before I was caught. So again I went to an immigration lawyer. His advice was to marry an American as soon as possible. Barring that it would have cost me about 25K to get legal status.

In the end I decided it just wasn't worth it. I went back to my central European country of birth and made a go of it there.

My point is just that legal immigration is costly and time consuming. If you're a poor Mexican or Honduran is that really an option?

People who say they aren't against immigration, just illegals really mean they don't want poor people in their country. It is truely the poor who sneak across borders. It is the poor who can't afford lawyers and fees and application costs.

I don't know the answers. I do know that some of the posts on ATS are damn close to inhumane. Barr "them" from life saving treatment, where is our humanity?

I have worked in factories most of my life. Most factories here have moved out of the country or just arn't hiring. Some places are only working 4 days a week and not hiring, downsizing, or whatever.

Yes I can cancel my internet service when things get really bad. I have no television reception, no cable, no cell phone, no credit card debt. I do have money in the bank due to a lawsuit when I was hit as a pedestrian by a vehicle, so I can use that until I find employment.

Yes, we would still have violence and what-not, but there has been such an increase. Look up how many lives have been lost because of illegals. I was shocked and saddened.

Don't tell me I don't want to work. I have worked my butt off for over 30 years and have never been in this position before. Don't tell me what kind of job I will or will not do. You don't know me. As for illegals taking only the jobs citizens don't want, that is not true. The last place I worked I had illegal friends and this place paid very well. I had 'legal' friends who were qualified and turned away.

As for welfare, some states do help illegals.

They pay some taxes like gas tax and sales tax. But they don't pay income or property taxes.

That really sucks. Any private business should be allowed to refuse a customer that won't pay.

America does have poor people, both legal and illegal. Mexicans are not the only poor people in the world. There has been a rise in tent cities, shelters are filled to capacity, people are hungry and homeless right here in America.

Can we take everyone in? Hell, I wish we could. Countries just arn't taking care of their own people. There are micro loans that are helping poor people in other countries. To us it would seem like such a small amount, yet in their countries it is enough for them to start businesses and care for their families properly. There are people struggling all over the world and America can't possibly take them all in. This is so very sad and upsetting.

I am not rich, never owned my own home or a new car, have always lived pay check to pay check, have always donated food, clothing, money to those who had even less than I had.

When will countries learn that human lives are more important than power and greed? There are answers but countries arn't interested in those answers.

To get back to the topic at hand about hospitals closing. We almost lost ours too. That is scary as hell.

I've been saying that for years too. When the europeans came here, there were no countries or boundaries. They were NOT illegal.

Actually human lives are NOT important. Way too many people in the world now and most of the problems of the third world would vanish if they would reduce population.

The more aid we send to the starving, the more they breed and just make things worse.

But that's the idea. We don't want poor illiterate unskilled mexicans coming here. Immigration should be for the well-off who have useful skills. People like engineers and physicists. The purpose of immigration should be to help america, not the immigrant.

That breaks down to $300,000 per patient. Just for dialysis? Does that not seem exorbitant?
