This seems to be pretty hard to do. Try something easier. Like this:
Get a post it note, a straight pin and a dixie cup. Turn the dixie cup upside down, push the pin through it so the sharp side is up.
Fold the post it note in half and open it. Balance it on the point of the pin. Bring your hands close to it and try to make it move to spin around.
If you can make it move try to use your hands to stop the paper and make it rotate in the opposite direction. If you can make the paper move, get a bandanna and tie it over your nose and mouth, to make sure you are not blowing on the paper.
I have done this, before witnesses.

I thought the spoon bending trick was just a ......well, trick. Watch this hand while I bend and weaken the spoon in the other hand.
I remember Uri Geller not being able to do it under test conditions. I don't think anyone was surprised. I have a hard time believing anyone has paranormal abilities. If there were people that could do this stuff I'm sure we would have heard about them. They could also get a million dollars from the Million Dollar Challenge.
This is how to bend a spoon. There is no trick of the mind.

If you saw your friend doing it, then shouldn't you be asking him the questions? And if your friend won't tell you, then I think it would be a safe bet it was a trick.
I don't like to be close minded and say it's not possible to do. But I've never seen anything that wasn't a trick. Some tricks are meant to be seen up close. The little bend of the spoon is a weak point, and you can bend them with your fingers without the pressure being visible.

Spoon bending is real.
I know someone that was producing a documentary on spoon bending.
And she said the same thing: everyone can do it.
So I asked her how to do it.
This is the technique she taught me:
Relax, breathe a couple of times, liberate your mind from preoccupations and desires. Yes, desires. This is the difficult part, you cannot expect or want something to happen or else it won't happen. You need to have intent without desire.
After you are prepared start visualizing and feeling white energy coming into your forehead and going down all the way to your hand. Visualize the entire movement of energy through your body. Eventually you will start feeling heat on your hands and thats when the spoon is getting soft.
I've tried it myself a couple of times and I got the spoon to become fairly soft. Not soft enough so that I could spiral it around itself, but soft enough that I could bend it without any effort. Its something you need to practice and be really patient about it.
Oh, also, she told me that it only works with stainless steel spoons.
