It claims the Allies deliberately did nothing to either rescue Jews or destroy the death camps.

L'Osservatore Romano draws on the diaries of former U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau, who said his country's officials 'dodged their grim responsibility, procrastinated when concrete rescue schemes were placed before them, and even suppressed information about atrocities'.

Mr Morgenthau claimed that when the U.S. began to rescue Jews the project met resistance from British officials.
The Foreign Office warned of 'the difficulties of disposing of any considerable number of Jews should they be rescued'.

Mr Morgenthau called this 'a satanic combination of British chill and diplomatic doubletalk, cold and correct and adding up to a sentence of death'.
The article will be seen as part of the Vatican's drive to restore the reputation of the wartime Pope, Pius XII.

So, the Vatican is trying to re-write history now?
It wouldn't be the first time I'm sure.

In recent years, the media have accused the Catholic Church of either helping the Nazis or being silent during the Holocaust. As an example, the January 26, 1998 issue of Time magazine on page 20 claims that the Catholic Church apologized for "collaborating with the Nazis during World War II." Even the new Holocaust Museum in New York unjustly criticized Pope Pius XII for being silent during World War II.

The Pope who led the Catholic Church during Hitler’s reign over most of Europe was either a disgrace or one of the great heroes of modern times. The evidence proves the latter.

Soon after World War II, Pope Pius XII, Eugenio Pacelli, was lauded as a man who not only was able to keep the church intact despite the Nazis but also had even protected Jews during the Holocaust.

Gilbert is an ardent Zionist and author of the book “Holocaust,” yet he praises the late Pope and stresses that, after World War II, Jewish organizations around the world recognized Pius XII for saving the lives of hundreds of thousands of Jews and other Nazi targets.

Then in 1963, the controversial play "The Deputy" opened in Berlin. The work — by a German playwright, no less — laid the blame of the Holocaust on the Pope. The playwright, Rolf Hochhuth, claimed that the Pope’s alleged indifference to the suffering of Jews during the Holocaust allowed it to happen. The pontiff was cold-hearted, uncaring, and evil, Hochhuth suggested.

But these allegations are simply nonsense. Gilbert said the Pope "went to the edge of risk again and again" to help the Jews.

Following the Pope's Christmas 1941 address, The New York Times stated in an editorial: "The voice of Pius XII is a lonely voice in the silence and darkness enveloping Europe this Christmas. He is about the only ruler left on the continent of Europe who dares to raise his voice at all."

Privately, he took great risks. For example, churches were ordered to hand out baptismal certificates and passports to thousands of refugees — Jews, Gypsies, and others — sparing them from the concentration camps.
Pius XII even spent much of his private inheritance to pay for the refugees' travel.
When the Nazis began the deportation of Rome's Jews, he ordered convents, monasteries, and other Catholic facilities to hide Jews, and even turned the papal bedroom into a birthing area for Jewish mothers.

“General Clark has told me to inform you the city of Rome has been liberated. He asks if the Holy See has any pressing needs.”
Without batting an eye, the monsignor replied: “We in the Vatican are fine. But we are hiding 50,000 Jews in and around the city of Rome. They are in urgent need of food and medical care. The Holy Father asks for your assistance with these people.”

As a result of the Pope’s actions, Rome saved a higher percentage of its Jews than any other occupied city.

Excuse me for my ignorance of this topic however I remember some ware did not the Vatican have a part to play in the Nazi party? I could have sworn.....

This doesnt surprise me a bit.

Anti-Semitism had been around in the whole of Europe for hundreds of years prior to World War One and Two. Many scholars trace European anti-Semitism back to the time of Martin Luther and even farther back into history. All of Europe had a hand in it. While Germany was persecuting the Jew not many countries took Jews in on mass.

Everybody to a certain extent had a hand in it in one way shape or form.
I wouldn't consider it rewriting of history, but rather of a further enlightenment or expansion of what really had transpired.

This accusation was repudiated in 1964, when the Catholic Church under Pope Paul VI issued the document Nostra Aetate as a part of Vatican II.

The allies actually didn't know about the camps until they discovered them during the fight through Germany. I doubt they were complicit and "knew" about the camps. Why do people get away with making rubbish like this up?

I'm not incredibly sure. The church certainly did diddly squat in stopping the Nazis, instead priests had to act independently to cry outrage at it. However, these were the super powers at the time, with who knows how many spy's. How did they not know?

I was going to say I remember not too long ago seeing the catholic anti-christ... I mean the pope dressed all out in his nazi.... I mean Sunday's finest when he was a youth.

While people go on and on about what secrets are government is hiding, I want to know what secrets the vatican has locked away in it's archives & vaults of stolen history. The history they hide away much like our own government because they are afraid it will cause social unrest amongst the good people of the earth. Cause after all those who know, know the truth shall not only set you free but the truth hurts.

I'll check em out. I do however find it rather odd though that with all the intense aerial surveillance & photographing going on during that period that nobody had spotted them.

Also I noticed this article focused on the UK and US. Not really mentioning all the rest of Europe.

I don't think so. No one hides history other than the ignorant, and the last few popes have been very modern and Reformations.

Why hide history? I find continuing to believe something when all evidence is against it as a much greater faith statement then believing something that has all truth with it.

And no, revealing such would not make all Catholics say nie and abandon their faith. I am Catholic. And even if you send me back in time and proved Jesus doesn't exist, I'd still believe. And I trust most of my Catholic cohorts would too.

I simply do not believe that the whole world would abandon Faith X if all evidence went against it.

Muslims worship a rock, Jews worship ruins, Buddhists worship a fat wise man, Christians worship a skinny wise man, and Catholics worship..., well, that's the joke, isn't it? We worship Jesus, but we really don't do anything but eat bread and bow.

For all people, I do not believe any kind of "ancient hidden proof" could stop faith.

While I don't hold it against the Pope for what he did or who he was affiliated with as a youth. I have to ask.

Again.

The title says, "Allies ignored the extermination of the Jews, claims Vatican."

My focus is on disproving that the Russians, the Canadians, the UK, the US, and the other allied states which took back the European continent were somehow ignoring the fact the extermination was going on. I've read books about the fact that other Europeans did know it was going on and did nothing about it. Hell, the German citizens in the towns near the camps knew about it and did nothing about it. They didn't even tell the allies until they found the camps and after they did - the allies made them pay for their evils. Community leaders were forced to take their towns down there and see what had happened to the Jews in those camps and the like.

I'll not, however, sit here and believe that we knew what was going on and just said, "Oh well."

Why does anyone care what the Vatican says? I never understood that. I just don't see why the old fart is any more special than the next guy. He could say the world will end in the next two days and I could care less, besides that's about the quality of the other junk spewing from his mouth.

That is guilty by association.

Now take it from what I was talking about with your situation. After that happens, 3 of the people watching run after the aggressors. One has a gun and shoots both, allowing them to be arrested.

The same is what I'm talking about with the church, whereas some priests didn't watch but rather did something, and so blaming the laziness of the pope onto the active priests is wrong.
