Well, it's that whole plate-tectonics thing.
Unfortunately, us here in North and South America don't move quite as fast as everone else in the world (witness UMTS and other mobile technologies),
so the rotation of the Earth is causing Europe, Asia, Austrialia et. al to slowly overtake us.
That means that in the not too distant future, when the US outsources jobs to Indonesia, India, the Phillippines, etc., there won't be so much of a
time difference. Unfortunately, we have to shake up the world to do that.
