Internment/Resettlement (I/R) Specialists in the Army are primarily responsible for day-to-day operations in a military confinement/correctional facility or detention/internment facility. I/R Specialists provide rehabilitative, health, welfare, and security to U.S. military prisoners within a confinement or correctional facility; conduct inspections; prepare written reports; and coordinate activities of prisoners/internees and staff personnel.

Some of your duties as an Internment/Resettlement Specialist may include:

Assist with the supervision and management of confinement and detention operations
Provide external security to confinement/corrections facilities or detention/internment facilities
Provide counseling and guidance to individual prisoners within a rehabilitative program
Prepare or review reports and records of prisoners/internees and programs

That is my job description I have been around this site for a good long while I have been to gitmo and to the USDB

I want to open a dialog so that I may dispel some of your worries I open my self up to you I will post my credentials if you so ask for them.

Ground rules
1. Please only 3 questions each person
2. No questions about camp x-ray I never worked there so I can't comment on it or what may or may not have gone on there.
3. Please don't flame me I am doing this as a kindness I want you all to know who we are and what we do.
4. I will be open and honest if I can't answer your question I will give a reason why and it won’t be a lame no comment remark.
5. I am doing this of my own free will the army has nothing to do with me posting this here it is my decision.
6. I can only comment about where I have been.
Back ground on me

So in other words, the title and job description match something along the lines of security and guard duties, and rehabilitation of inmates.

Sounds like a state job in government lingo. It could be paralleled I imagine to two state side jobs.

Nothing crazy going on in that post.

Indeed I would liken my job to advanced baby sitter. It’s a little of watch what the inmates do, be the example for them to strive for when they get out.

I will report violations of my special orders, emergencies, and anything not covered in my instructions, to the commander of the relief.

I never violated any special orders please don't try to derail the thread.

You missed my point. You've been to gitmo, right..? I wanted to know how many violations you witnessed - not whether or not you were involved in any.

Short answer is NO I did not see or hear of any.

Long answer
Ok in my 17 months there I have seen guards on several occasions have feces and urine thrown on them just because, I have seen guards get spit on, ive been spit on thank god for spit shields that we ware. we take the brunt of there anger. We have regular contact with them and it is understandable that they are angry I would be to if the situations were reversed. And I am speaking for the max custody camp not the regular caps they live in a shared barracks type structure and they have more privileges than the max custody detainees do

Let me say that they get several hr's for rec and they get movie nights and they have a new education center with classes given in there language and a multitude of opportunities for them to keep busy now. Listin im not trying to sugar coat things here ok but to put it as simply as I can me just never saw a guard abuse a detainee.

How do you live with yourself? Considering that your job was to detain people and as such deny them their human rights. While at the same time knowing that most of these people have never been nor will ever be charged with a crime.

Ever here of the idea of innocent until proven guilty?

Do you think you will ever get your soul back?

Well I am Jewish so I fear I may have no soul to begin with.

Considering that your job was to detain people and as such deny them their human rights

They get good meals better than my wife cooks that is for sure they get to shower and rec and have movie nights the have a multimillion dolor education center that was built this year. I would hardly say that I denied any one of any rights. My job is to ensure the safety and security of detainees not to judge ether way far and impartial all the way.

Ever here of the idea of innocent until proven guilty?

Yes indeed I have. It is a basic American right shared by AMERICANS. And that is all I will say about that.

(thank god for forist gump)

EDIT for quotes

EDIT AGAIN: This post I talk about a few of the things the detainees are allowed I am talking once more about the max detainees and not the regular ones.

Looks like someone needs some mental-viagra.

Do you generalize this poorly with everything..? The OP hasn't stated anything yet - unlike yourself.

Does the 'brutal' on your avatar, represent the general mentality of you Concentration Camp guards, or is it just you personally? Why did you choose that Avatar? I know I certainly wouldn't want to be in a Detention camp being guarded by someone who chooses 'Brutal' as his ATS avatar... kinda brings back memories of the scandal from Guantanamo.

Look basicly I don't trust Government ever since 9/11... as simple as that. My trust hasn't exactly been won over with the whole torture scandal under George W, and I really don't believe that the Elite of this world have the peoples best intentions at heart, so you can't blame me for being slightly sceptical when one of these Guards comes on ATS proposing to set the record straight, but chooses BRUTAL as his ATS avatar (which I see you have now changed, because you too obviously see my point)

Well im not so hard headed that I can't see anyone’s point.

I try hard to see both sides of the argument or issue and readjust accordingly. Simply put if your right your right.

And I don't blame you for the lack of trust. In fact I ask that you scrutinize me and what I say in fact I demand it! I am just presenting the facts of my experience at gitmo and being a 31E and as such I only ask a little civility. Which you a forwarded me and I thank you.

Look sorry I shouldn't have been so trivial as to point out your avatar.. that was wrong of me, and if the truth be told I was just trying to get an reaction. I guess this is a case of don't shoot the messenger, and the messenger seems like a reasonable person!

I guess even in Nazi Germany the majority of the soldiers serving in the army would have been honest decent people. It's the leaders at the top of the food chain that we have to worry about. Because they usually have a self serving agenda behind the wars that they send innocent people off to fight.. and that agenda is usually power and profit.

Don't apologize for your feelings you wanted a reaction and I gave one to you. Perhaps it was not what you thought it would be. I work in a prison I get called worse almost every day.
And also I am not trying to win you over to be pro goverment, questioning the government and its actions is American as apple pie and baseball. And I support it 100%

how about this man and I am being sincere here if I see anything that raises a red flag IE them asking for volunteers for fema camps or anything remotely coming close to anything resembling Nazi Germany ats will be warned! BY ME and I swear that I never saw heard or participated in any misdoing at in or around gitmo.

Most of what you hear and see of gitmo is from camp x-ray which has been closed for years it is now overgrown with weeds and is unused.

in fact I went and did a google search and here is what x-ray looks like today

Well, S&F for ya for sticking yourself out there. I personally do not hold your duties against you or any enlisted person, really. They are assigned their jobs pretty much from the get go in Basic. You refuse an order you go to prison. Not much freedom of choice, really.

In reality, the guards have nothing to do with the fact that the prisoners are there. It is not the guards job to determine innocence or guilt. They are there to guard and mke sure that the prisoners are treating humanely and within the confines of whatever law they are observing. Voice your complaints about who is there and why to the officers and intelligence agents in charge.

That being said, what I am curious about is the level of interaction you might have had with the prisoners. Were you allowed to chat with them beyond basic Prison Guard commands?

That's right, the guards are all innocent.

Then why were the Nazi guards of the camps tried as war criminals at Nuremberg?
