Can someone please tell me using credible links like NASA, universities etc (not some guy's blog) as to what is exactly happening in 2012 in terms of the Galactic plane,

It seems some that say :

our solar system(which moves in a sinosidal wave while revolving around galactic center) will cross the galactic plane around DEC 2012, some say that wont happen for 10000s of year and some say this has already happened in 1998 !!

Then some say the earth and sun cross the galactic plane very often but what is unique is that the sun and earth will be directly inline with the "galactic center" ,

So what is true ?? I need credible links plz

search the bad astronomy forums...they are littered with such questions about 2012.But in December 2012 the same thing happens like it does every winter solstice.There is no *special* alignment basically.

yes there is, with the precession of the equinoxes there is an alignment, it will happen, 2012 is when we go into the age of Aquarius, the precession comes to a whole.

There will be an alignment, it will be pretty, that's all that will happen on 2012.

For real, how can you dis-prove something that only exists in people's minds? You can't prove something like that with evidence, only lack of evidence (un-evidence?). Unfortunately, people who believe in it will not believe lack of evidence.

That blog people refer to, actually is the closest thing to un-evidence that anybody has bothered to compile, and I think it's actually very well done.

Of course, all of this is my opinion, yours may certainly differ.

Look for information in regards to the Black Sun. Some recognize the "galactic center" to be the Black Sun. Those who see the Black Sun also probably would also say there isn't much difference between Night and Day except for the blue sky. Shamans also speak of the Black Sun even if they don't see it like those that do claim to see it. Shamans do recognize the Black Sun in visions as usually known through meditation or native rituals and even common artifacts like the Dream Catcher (when properly dressed -- small ones usually just hang feathers outside a circle of web while large ones properly done have feathers arranged in a spiral with an inner and outer spiral -- darker feathers inside.)

Just like the Earth orbits the Sun, the Sun itself is part of the Milky Way galaxy. It takes about 220 million years for the Sun to complete a single journey around the Milky Way. But the Sun also bobs up and down as it travels in orbit around the center of the galaxy. The oscillation takes a total of 64 million years to complete. And there's a moment when the Sun passes directly through the galactic disk and there's a perfect galactic alignment between the Sun and the center of the galaxy.

When's that galactic alignment going to happen? It's almost impossible to know exactly. The Milky Way is 100,000 light-years across, but only 1,000 light-years thick. So during the course of that 64 million year cycle, the Sun rises above the galactic plane 500 light-years, passes down through the galactic plane, until it's 500 light-years below and then comes back up again.

There has to be a moment when everything's in perfect alignment, but the timescales are so long that astronomers couldn't calculate it. Of course, this alignment with the center of the galaxy doesn't have an effect on the Earth or the Solar System, it's just like crossing an imaginary line in space, like traveling from Canada to the United States in your car.

There's another type of galactic alignment. This is where the Earth, Sun and the center of the galaxy are in perfect alignment from our perspective. This actually happens every year during the winter solstice, on December 21st. Because of a wobble in the Earth's orbit, the positions of the constellations slowly shift from year to year. The most perfect galactic alignment between the Earth, Sun and the center of the Milky Way happened back in 1998, but now we're slowly shifting away from that alignment. In the coming decades, the perfect alignment will shift to another day.

Again, the alignment of these objects is purely a coincidence.

The more I research the more confused I get,

One thing is clear, the alignment of earth and sun in 2012 is purely visual and has no global or galactic significance.

This is the confusing bit and is the bit that can have actual physical significance if true.

I have found all credible but opposing views, Researchers at the Cardiff Centre of Astrobiology have built a computer model of the Solar System's journey around the Milky Way so maybe they are more accurate in which case we havent passed the galactic plane and will pass in the near future, dont know what to believe

So, the question is, are we going to cross that galactic plane in 2012? Not even close. According to the journal nature, as well as many others, there is evidence of crossing this plane 3 million years ago. This would mean that we are moving away from the galactic plane and won’t be due to cross it for another 30 million years. In addition the margin of error in these calculations in at least 2.1 parsecs or about 6.5 light years making images like these completely meaningless. To conclude: If you hear someone tell you that the earth is on a 26,000 year cycle to align with the galaxy ask them how the wobble of the earth will change its position in relation to the galaxy. Similarly, if you hear someone say that the earth is on a 250 million year cycle to align with the galaxy ask them if they know that this happened 3 million years ago and wont happen again for another 30 million.

You might be interesting to know that the Solar System bobs up and down above and below the galactic equator. It takes 64 million years to complete a full cycle going above and below the galactic equator. If you're heard that the Solar System is supposed to cross the galactic equator in 2012, don't worry, that's a myth. It takes 64 million years to complete that cycle, so there's no way to know exactly when it will actually cross the galactic equator.

Instead of making a perfectly flat orbit around the galaxy's centre, it actually bounces up and down. At times it can rise right up out of the galactic plane – getting 100 light years above – and then dip down below it. They calculated that we pass through the plane every 35 to 40 million years.

And here's the bad news. According to their calculations, the Solar System will be passing through the galactic plane in the near future

Okay we will go in Order...
The Galactic Plane. Yes it is true that our Solar System Dips below and Above the Galactic Plane. However, The Planet (according to the Fossil Record) actually is less likely to have an Extinction Event during these times Statistically speaking. The Earth is More in Danger when It is NOT passing through the Galactic Plane. This Cycle Does take Millions of Years. We do not Regularly Cross the Plane. (unless Millions of year cycles are regular to you)

Now this is not to be confused with the Galactic Alignment of Dec 21, 1998, when the Sun Aligned with the Galactic Equator. This Marked the End of 1 Full Precession or 25,625 years. It will take another 25,625 years for the Sun to Be in that Same Spot in the Sky on Dec 21 (Winter Solstice, Ignore the fact we may not be using Gregorian Calenders then). The Sun take 36 years to Cross that Section of Sky. They Mayans added 3 years and broke it into 3 sets of 13 for this Transit. 1998 was the End of the 1st set of 13. Starting in 1985. 2011 is the Last Year of the 2nd Set. 2012 is the First Year of the Last Set as the Sun Leaves the "Spirit Road" of the Milky Way's Dark Rift. (Mouth of the Snake, mouth of the Frog)

Okay now, The Exact Center, is a Giant Black Hole Called SGR A*. Every Year Around Dec 21st (At least in this Epoch) the Sun Basically Aligns with the Galactic Center, However, This is not Viewed by Earth, But above the Galactic Plane Looking Down (lol, yeah I know). Anyway, in 2012 there is an Alignment Between the Galactic Center, our Star Sol, the Earth, and The Pleiades Star Cluster. The Pleiades will be the Anti-Axis to the Center. Once Again this is not an Alignment Viewable from Earth. The other Alignment with the Galactic Equator (not Plane) in 1998 WAS viewable from Earth.

You did not ask about it. But there is the Cosmic Cross Alignment as well. The Side-Real and Galactic Equator form one Cross and the Earth's Geocentric Horizon(equator) and the Celestial Equator (ecliptic) for another Cross... These two Imaginary Crosses (from imaginary lines) come together to form an 8 spoke Wheel, this is a Symbol used in Buddhism, as well as being including into many other traditions. The Chaos Symbol, though it is modern, is a reference to this (he did not know it at the time he made it but found out later, lol). Hope this Helps you.

So here you go, and the clincher for me was when I discovered EDWARD R. DEWEY, holly #!......Why in the hell were we not taught this in school, why isn't his scientific research used in our society. Easy because then the greedy powers of this world wouldn't have the control they have now. Plain and simple.

Dewey first became interested in cycles while Chief Economic Analyst of the Department of Commerce in 1930 or 1931 because President Hoover (who was an engineer)wanted to know the cause of the Great Depression.

[3] Dewey reports that economists gave him no consistent answers on the cause of the depression and he lost faith in economic methods. He received and took advice to study how business behaviour occurred rather than why.

Dewey devoted his life to the study of cycles, claiming that "everything that has been studied has been found to have cycles present." He carried out extensive studies of cyclicity in economic, geological, biological, sociology, physical sciences and other disciplines.

In 1941 he formed the Foundation for the Study of Cycles with a board that included distinguished scientists and industrialists to act as a central clearing house of cycles studies from diverse areas. The foundation made studies of natural and social sciences as well as business and economics, and new methods were devised for isolating significant cycles present in time series.

A magazine called "Cycles" was published from June 1950, and the foundation also published a four volume collection of reports on cycles including some of Dewey's selected writings on cycles named "Cycles Classic Library Collection". Together with author Og Mandino, Dewey published a book entitled Cycles: The Mysterious Forces That Trigger Events.[1] The Foundation for the Study of Cycles is still active and is located in offices in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

As a result of his research, Dewey asserted that seemingly unrelated time series often had similar cycles periods present and that when they did the phase of these cycles was mostly the nearly the same (cycle synchrony).

He also asserted that there were many cycles with periods that were related by powers or products of 2 and 3. This claim is illustrated in the table below. To construct this table starting from the period 17.75 years, multiply by three as you proceed along diagonals from lower left to upper right, and multiply by two as you proceed along diagonals from lower right to upper left.

So here is what 2012 is in a nutshell:

According to Ivan Stein, 2012 is the convergence of these 3 events happening simultaneously. They were:

1. The cyclical rotation of the Mayan Calendar "The Tolkein" which calculates ours and the universe's existence from 16.1 billion years ago all the way through to December 12, 2012. This calendar restarts itself every 5,126 years (Which was the start date from when the calendar was created)

2. The Earth pass the Galactic Equator every 25,630 years (This is more commonly referred to as the precession of the equinox)
This cycle happens on December 12, 2012.

3. An ice age occurs approximately every 102,520 years. Our last ice age was estimated to have occurred approximately 100,000 years ago.

If you add it up you will see a convergence when you:

5,126 X 5 = 25,630 and then 26,630 X 4 = 102,520


So basically, these 3 events will be culminating all at the same time in 2012. That is the significance.


There are several independent sources like Nassim Haramein, Terrence Mckenna, and Edward R. Dewey who have all through years of study given the hypothesis that TIME is not linear......it is cyclical. Add to the fact that it is widely known that Albert Einstein absolutely loathed the notion of coincidences and he was very big on the theory of relativity - which hypothesizes that everything is measurable and repeatable in the universe.

Now considering the prophecies of these great men and what their theories represented and how they support the potential for a "2012 phenomenon", I came across this article that was published a year ago and I was blown away to say the least. It seems some modern scientists are predicting very similar results!

If you haven't studied Haramein, Mckenna or Dewey, this may go over like a lead ballon, but I highly advise you do, becasue this is very very real!

The Galactic Alignment is a Way to Keep Track of World Ages or in modern terms, the Precession of the Equinox. This is a Huge Cycle that takes 25,625 years to Complete, Every Major (and many minor) world Religions have this information Encoded in them. Free-Masons, Christianity, Jewish Traditions, Hopi, Navajo, Mayan, Buddhist, even Islam. Weather you Talking of Going into the Age of Aquarius or the Satya Yuga or the 5th World Age. There are Several Special Alignments. The Most important one Viewable to Earth happened in 1998, it was a cosmic event that only happens every 25,625 years. This is when the Winter Solstice Sun Aligned with the Galactic Equator. Do to Precession this will not Happen Again in the Same Spot for 25,625 years. It will Align with Opposite Side (not near the Galactic Center, but the Anti-Center) in 13,000 yeas. Seems pretty Damn Special to me. Seeing how every one in the World Decided to Use it to Keep Track of the "World Ages" with. BTW this ties into the Geomagnetic Reversals and the Distance of this Solar System to the Center of the Galaxy. Every 26,000 years or so there is a Perturbation of the Geomagnetic Field with a Full Reversal every 230,000 years or so. 52 in the Last 12 million years. We are about 26,000 Light Years from the Center of the Galaxy. And yes these are Related. In fact it is a basic function of EMFs in a Gravitational/Magnetic Lock with another Larger Force. This has been observed in laboratories at the Atomic Level.

I am Ophiuchus BTW(born under the sign of and the other meaning, lol). I wrote much on this subject and the Correct timing of the Epochs. Ophiuchus or the Serpent Barer stands on of the Galactic Center. He is holding the World Snake the Ouroboros. The Galactic Rift. if you look at it with a Clear Picture. Shows that the Milky Way really is the Ouroboros. It literally looks like a Snake Eating Its Tail. Also Looks like the Milky Way Encircles the Earth. Anyway, the 13th Sign. Yup. Maya used 13.
