I am almost ready to leave ats due to partisanship, disinfo, agendas and lack of research or sources

I like it more than ever. I like trying to figure out what is what.

Could you show your sources please, or at least some sort of attribution?

What is the 'common cause of good'? Everyone has their own opinion, their own 'take' on things, their own agenda and bias and what I may perceive to be of 'the common good' is not at all what you may perceive.

I agree, however, that rigorous debate is often obfuscated by partisanship and petty politicking as well as rudeness (of which I am guilty at times). In an ideal world that wouldn't happen, but it appears to be a human trait and in all honesty I wouldn't give it much weight if you are consistent in yourself.

There is a great saying by Pious Porkis*: "Nil carborundum bastardo".
It is my motto and you are free to use it as well.

Don't let anyone make you quit doing what you like to do. Change your tactics but no your views. If you leave they win.

forgive my insight, but if you wanted to leave, you would just do so. What you want to actually do is complain and maybe (hopefully) effect a change on teh board, which is commendable, but let's at least be real about it, shall we?


if clinton, bush sr, bush jr and obama have accomplished anything, it has been the increasing polarization and sometimes, dare I say, balkanization of people and their views. What troubles me is how much politics seems to be increasingly becoming peoples self identity, religion or self worth past time, much like ardent sports club supporters.

What is worse, i see some of these same reactions from the leadership & mods here, with the exception of SO, who pretty much keeps things in balance it seems, publicly.

but that is exactly the reason fo ra good amount of th efriction here as I've seen it. I personally don't care if you have a shrine to obama right next to your bed, or a dartboard with the mans face on it, if you're a leader in this community, keep that kind of stuff to yourself when 'on the job', and take a good long hard look at your actions if you are still capable of it and see how it colors your actions and interpretations.

The sad state of it is, from a large number of people, that ability has long since gone. I even notice it within myself at times, even when I'm in a joking mood. what about you all?

I for one am sick of threads like this. How many " can't we all just get along" and " I wish people would think like me" threads is that today?

I really can't say anything to help you out here, it is your decision, but I am pretty sure you won't find another site like ATS anywhere. Maybe it is just time for a break and some reflection??

On a site this big there is sure to be about 100-1 on actual read worthy posts/threads, but I guess if you really want to be enlightened to the possibilities ATS entails then it is up to you to make the decision to stay or leave. Personally it wil not bother me either way, although I hope you and all current members stay.

Exactly! Like I said - - all I want is an increase in how many I can ignore.

Differing opinions can be posted intelligently with respect. It is the attackers and "one eyed" skeptics I have no interest in hearing from.

I have felt the same way in the past, but gradually came to realize that I must be the change I wish to see. That's why I am taking personal time to formulate threads people can understand and learn from, once you open someones mind, it's extremely hard to close it again, if possible at all.

Once you open peoples eyes to what is going on around them, you don't need to point things out, they start to spot the plot themselves.

Contribute in ways you wish to see others contribute, and it will be so. Now that you've made a good point about the problems, teach people something

End result? The thread falls off the table in a few days...

I do enjoy your threads Zorgon.

Regardless of whether the topic is something I believe in or not, I respect the people who make the effort to do a little research and provide some ammunition to back up their claims, unfortunately that isn't the norm here.

I can see where the op is coming from and I've thought about leaving as well because it can be frustrating, but in doing so, I'd be the one missing out. If you can look past the bs, which seems to be increasing lately, there are some interesting threads to be read. I come here on a daily basis because there are some good minds here who make valuable contributions to topics I find fascinating. All you really need to worry about is focusing your attention on what interests you and how you can contribute to a discussion in a constructive manner.

Unfortunately for some people discussion = a place to vent your frustrations. We need to be smarter than that.

Take it easy.

I still think there are good threads being made,just try and ignore the rest and hope that when schools has to go back we will see less trolling.Course politics is one of the things that directly impacts our lives and people in other countries aswell so it will be more heated than aliens,ufo's,bigfoot,nibiru,reptillians etc

I'm no academic but i do understand the difference between high brow and
main stream and i love it because i can then make my own opinion and that is what makes this site the best for information and drawing a proper conclusion. Remember it takes allsorts Don't shoot your self in the foot and pack it in

There are plenty of other threads to read other then the political ones.

Here is the home of the athiest of everything - anyone can post about beliefs - who cares, nothing can ever be proved or disproved - why argue about beliefs?

I only want evidence - not to believe - but to collect and try and understand.

Politics is just a puppet game - who cares what the puppets say or do? I want to reveal the hands behind the curtain.

None yet. My daughter's husband went into a coma 3 days after their son was born. Then passed on Christmas morning last year of infectious Leukemia - when my daughter had life support pulled because it reached his brain.

She works freelance production - and I drive 5 hours from AZ to CA to be nanny to her son and daughter - - so she can work and provide for them.

This is an escape. I try to be as involved as I can be.

When I'm in a position to contribute a thought provoking thread and stay with it and monitor it - I will.
