Cryptic Clues to location of Holy Grail

There's a story in my local news (sorry, it's not online).

Apparently, experts in cracking codes, including people who worked on the enigma machine in ww2, are examing strange codes enscribed in the weird monuments within the grounds of Shugborough Hall - a stately home owned by Lord Lichfield, the Queen's cousin - located within Cannock Chase, a forest, where i live in England.

It is their belief that these cryptic codes could point the way to the location of the Holy Grail itself. I've seen most of these monuments up close myself, and they are very weird. The whole Cannock Chase area itself has a mysteriousness about it. Tolkein lived in a village on the Chase while he was writing The Lord Of The Rings... it's that kind of place.

Does anyone else know of these monuments? Or of any other holy grail stories?

I was at Borders the other day and I was flipping through a very interesting book about the Holy Grail but I forgot the name of it. I might actually buy it.

Anyway, the author wrote something very interesting that I never even thought of.

There's quite an interesting book called "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" that takes this theory further.
It claims that the blood of Christ actually refers to his bloodline. They expound that this belongs to the Merovingian kings.

Interesting.

However, to the best of my knowledge, the Grail is a medieval legend and there are no ancient records mentioning it. It was apparently invented for politcal reasons.

Any of you guys read 'The Da Vinci Code'? It's pretty popular now, and not a bad read at all.

It talks about the Holy Grail in it.

"The Da Vinci Code" was a great piece of FICTION.

it was based on factual information, but a lot of it was made up to fit the story.

I wouldn't use the book as a stepping stone on the path to finding the grail, if it exists.

In graduate school, I was a graduate assistant to an NEH-funded seminar on Arthurian Legend. One of the things I learned is that the origin and form of the grail are in dispute, as is the etymology of the word "grail".

Didn't the legends of King Arthur state that some of his men found it? Or were they the Crusaders of King Richard?

The Arthurian legends state that it was one of his knights who found it. I can't remember which one - Parsival ?

Its been so long since I've been to Shugborough that I can't even remember where this inscription is. Interesting find all the same.

having read holy blood holy grail i would have to concur that they make a pretty good case for the grail being a metaphor for the blood line passed down to the Merovingians. the book's a good read and i would higly recommend it, then read the da vinci code 2nd.

Parsifal was the Grail Knight, yes, but also Galahad, son of Lancelot was credited in separate epics (I read Mallory's Le Morte d' Arthur, which explains my association of the Grail and Galahad.)
