I am the type of writer that once an idea pops into my head I have to run with it! I may have jumped the gun, but my story is in! I like it! Good luck everyone and thank you ATS for giving those of us that love to write a place to do so!!!!!

Count me in! The cool thing is I've already started writing a story some time ago and hopefully it's not to long to fit in. Either way I can modify it as I've had some ideas.

Good luck all and can't wait to read the work!

Edit: this is probably a stupid question but the topic can consist of multiple subjects listed right? Also, if I have a story with one or more of the listed topics, can it also include other topics? IE: lost civilizations and aliens or lost civilizations only?

I'm probably making this more complicated than it is...

I believe this will be a very good contest with all of the great writers out there. To see what is lurking within their minds will be very interesting indeed.

Hi Mr.W

I’m not trying to be provocative asking this, but please, what is the significance of ‘gratuitous gore’?
As an avid reader I’m a little embarrassed to say I’ve no idea what this means...
Thanks in Advance...
gracie

If killing a character or cutting their head off is a part of the story, fine. There is no problem with that.

If it's not central to the story and your writing of guts and eating beating hearts and killing babies and it's not needed, that's gratuitous gore.

Hope that clears things up.

As long as the main theme of the story fits into the contest guidelines, you'll be fine.

Is it permissible to "series" our [IWWC] into our [MSWC]? as in Chapter 2.

A short story should be able to stand on it's own. If you can do that and play off your other story, I see no problem with it.

I have started already!

Cannot wait to be judged! The creativity is just rushing through me. It is very exciting

Minding My Own Business

It was a typical day of running errands. Hurry here, hurry there, never enough time to think a thought. Stopping by Shadyside hospital to get the petscan then off to Giant Eagle for groceries and home again before the evening hrs at my businesss. But again, the flashing, the feeling in the atmosphere should have alerted me but it didn't. Too many things on my mind.
I enter the lobby floor elevator and push the button for the 6th floor. Stopping on the second floor, I know Im going to be late. The door opens and the nurse rolls in an elderly woman on a hospital bed. I move to the corner to make room. I'm wondering what this poor soul has to go thru. The atmosphere changes again and there is a blinding flash..."Tell Margaret we are here" ,the angel says. No I can't I'm thinking. I can't say anything. The nurse will call for security or something. I shuffle my feet. Not now. Please not now, Im begging in my mind. "Tell her".
Excuse me, I know this is going to sound really weird but um I have to tell you something. There are two angels by your bed. One wants me to tell Margaret that they are here and not to worry. The angel said they wouldn't leave you and all will be well.
Snapping her metal patient file shut, and with seething in her voice, the nurse informs me that this patients name is Ann. With tear filled eyes, the patient slowly lifts her finger and whispers, "Wait"........
My conformation name is Margaret. If angels wanted to tell me something, they would call me Margaret. She smiles at me and whispers, "Thank you".
Oh good. It's the sixth floor. I hope I'm not too late. I need to learn to mind my own business.

Hi

I'm not sure yet if I'll enter or not, but I noticed that all of the entires so far are written in first-person... is that one of the requirements of these contests? And if so, where can I find "the rules" posted?

Thanks!

No, it is not required. I am fairly certain it isn't because it would severely limit some writers' abilities to make a great story.

I just chose first person because it would make it more personal.

My entry is in. called (MSWC) Tragic as the love that kills us. A psychological, dark love story designed to illustrate the deepest of despair in the human mind. And what alot have contemplated doing throughout their lifetimes.
