Russia says raises readiness of troops in South Ossetia

www.reuters.com

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A year after fighting a war with Georgia, Russia strengthened the combat readiness of its troops in the rebel region of South Ossetia on Tuesday and warned the United States against rearming Georgia.

"Provocations from the Georgian side ... are not stopping," Andrei Nesterenko, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman, said in a statement. "In connection with this, we have stepped up the combat readiness of Russian troops and border guards."

Tension has been rising in South Ossetia ahead of the August 7 anniversary of the war, which began when Georgian forces launched

With the Russians on the move in the Atlantic (link below), the rise in combat readiness in Georgia and recent moves, which included opening an Army base in Kyrgyzstan it seems that the Russians are moving a lot of military hardware in the past week.

Is this a sign of a major event unfolding...I certainly am relieved that the US Military has expressed absolutely no concern over these moves on the one year aniversary of the Georgia/Russian-South Ossetia war from last year.

Israel i getting ready to attack Iran is what is going on, the US knows it, Russia knows it ,And even though Russia is moving things around just in case things get out of hand after the attack privately they support the attack , the last things the US and Russia both want is a nuke race in the middle east.

the one thing no one knows if Israel is pushed will drop nuke(S) on Iran and that why Russia is getting ready just in case

Why would Russia care if Israel dropped nukes? If Israel did that, they would be commiting suicide because everyone in the world who has half of brain will do everything possible to dismantle such a dangerous group of zealots.

In fact, let arrogant Israel drop the bomb. Maybe that's the unification that the world finally needs to end the hypocracy of the past.

Relieved? The conflict in Georgia is very concerning considering the US military is not leaving anything off the table as far as military support. I.e. weapons and missile defense. WTF?

I don't think anything will happen with Georgia.

The two republics (South Ossetia and Abkhazia) who actually wanted Russian support and want to be republics of Russia now are protected by Russia and can now peruse their own path. I doubt Russia wants any more of Georgia, because obviously there would be widespread public dissent if they occupy any other regions of Georgia. In fact it is much better for them to let things remain the way they are, as Saakashvili is increasingly unpopular in Georgia. They would get nothing from attacking Georgia again, and unless the Georgians do something really stupid, nothing will happen there.

everyone cares if Israel drops nukes, or if any country drops nukes for that matter because you have fallout .that radioactive cloud is not stationary my friend it moves
just like u said if would be the end of Israel basically. so why wouldn't Russia be preparing just in case to attack Israel if necessary?(but not likely)

but as of right now the Russians ar just doing some muscle flexing and putting on a good show , just like with the 2 nuke powered subs patrolling off the coast of the us, seriously lol. they have not moved into an offense or even a defense posture that would concern anyone as of yet , they are just preparing themselves for the just in case scenarios, witch is a wise precaution

One thing to remember, when the georgia vs. russia war in Ossetia happened, the people of Ossetia thanked Russia for it's help.

There are oil pipelines coming via the caspian sea in Georgia
U.S. troops guard it with american tax money

This is about oil make no mistake
the people of Georgia hate their leader

Those are two nuclear powered attack subs and that article was from 2000. I think Russia would have more than just two subs operating in the Atlantic at this time conducting recon.

Either way, it's beside the point. Suckassvilli keeps attacking civilians and he's going to get his ass handed to him again. Maybe this time Russia will do the right thing and liberate Georgia by capturing/assassinating Saakashvili with an airbourne spetsnaz or VDV assault on his HQ, just like 1970s Afghanistan.

no the aticle is not from 2000 there are was was recently 2 akula class subs patrolling off the us coast 200 miles or so one made a port call to cuba

www.foxnews.com...

can find it on msnbc on cnn and many other places as well

first time in 15yrs they have done this type of patrolling near the us coast but its just saber rattling . russia might do something in georgia but i doubt it there trying to scare nato and not allow Georgia into the organization

Sounds like they're just trying to prevent any sort of rebellion or terrorist action. But who knows, Putin is crazy.

Israel has HUNDREDS of nukes and plenty on ICBMs. Russia is well within range of those nukes and while no one really talks about it, Israal can nuke Russia anytime they want. And if Israel is about to be destroyed anyway, then why not take Russia as well.

Russia is NOT immune from Israeli nukes.

Eh, I think the drums have been drummin for a while. I immagine someone on a loud speaker shouting "places everyone!" I suppose this could all be over oil, but its no secret that one of the best fixes to hard financial times is war. World wide depression = world wide war.

Ummm....no the OP's article is from THIS week. Not sure where you are getting 2000 from but that is false.

Saakasvilli (what a name) - is finished - he was a puppet of Cheney and is gone. Russia is merely indicating to the DEMS that it will not tolerate any more yankie meddling - and next time it will be considerably swifter and more serious response I can assure you.

They never did attack Georgia - Georgia initiated the war, Russia came in and defended the people -

This is true - India is where the cloud will move to and they have indicated very strongly that they will see it as an act of war as it will be a foreseen outcome and deliberately done - the new bunker buster weapons developed for this operation is ten times more powerful than the MOAB (Mother of All Bombs) .

To hit the nuclear installations which are buried deep underground would require enormous quantities of radioactive earth to be thrown into the atmosphere -

You have almost no idea do you - you have simply made stuff up - completely out of thin air - no one, and I mean no one, has any idea how many Nukes Israel has - NO IDEA - nor do they know what their delivery method is, you have just typed stuff and hoped no one would notice .....strange man, really strange.

Further the Russian have what is considered by many to be the most advanced air defense system on earth the SAM-400, the bigger better brother of the 300 which has been sold to other countries including Iran which is capable of taking on dozens of simultaneous targets from hundreds of kilometers away ----

Not sure why I am giving you the facts as they don't appear to mean much to you.

what concerns me is if Georgia joins NATO ,witch is highly possible , they attack again , and Russia invades Georgia or even launches airtstrikes on Georgia, then by doctrine the U.S.A. and most of Europe will be in a defacto state of war with Russia. That will lead to all kinds of problems in witch both sides will not like

Actually, last year's war killed Georgia's chances of being accepted as a member of NATO for possibly quite some time.
