Cambodian authorities ban Miss Landmine contest

The Cambodian government has intervened to prevent a "Miss Landmine" beauty pageant from being held in the country later this week, calling it an insult to the disabled.

"The beauty contest would make a mockery of Cambodia's land-mine victims," government spokesman Khieu Khanarith said. "The government does not support this contest."

The Ministry of Social Affairs sent a letter to the organisers of the pageant on Friday informing them of the ban and saying the contest would damage "the dignity and honour of the disabled". The contest was scheduled for this Friday, with the Minis

No, Miss Landmine is not an insult to the disabled.

It is bringing awareness to the horrific reality that there are millions of live land mines still laying about in nations around the world, and that children are maimed and killed daily from these booby traps.

What is far more insulting, is the fact that governments do not want anyone to know about the reality of land mine pollution.

Censorship, cover ups, this is typical when it comes to children being killed by a land mine set 30years ago. They just do not want the average person knowing what WAR actually creates.

Yeah, as hideous as such a contest is, it's not as hideous as what actually happened.

Those poor Cambodians, those people are a REAL victim nation.
