Was not aware of this at all, thanks. However i am actually even more confused now. This flu type supposed to have a nasty cytokine storm side effect,this is why it is feared - according to media at least.
But fever generally is also result of cytokine release (among other things of course).
There is no fever in third of cases, but there is higher chance of cytokine storm
???????????
I doubt that immune system in H1N1 infection is releasing only selective cytokines ,those that do not cause rise in body temperature. So it is pretty weird thing, or this branch of immune system does not see virus at all (while others obviously do, otherwise people could not heal) ,or it overreacts hugely. Weird. Anyone from CDC or WHO here to explain it to me?

The last WHO briefing note shows the order of importance of danger signs for H1N1.
The 2 most important signs are breath related.
Fever is the 7th

* shortness of breath, either during physical activity or while resting
* difficulty in breathing
* turning blue
* bloody or coloured sputum
* chest pain
* altered mental status
* high fever that persists beyond 3 days
* low blood pressure.

i believe that a certain percentage of the population is very slow to raise a fever in general. i would wonder what those numbers are as compared to these percentages. i myself have had nonspecific infections with white cell counts in the appendicitis/pneumonia ranges with no fever and run a lower than normal body temp in general. i also still maintain that many people probably had this flu early in 2009 and didn't know it and were not tested for it.

I agree. I know that a few people think I'm being kooky when I say that I think I've already had it, but I went out of state in late March and my relatives there had also just gotten over something nasty.

I think it was all over the place early this year. I don't think that whatever comes back this fall will be any worse. Not for those of us who avoid the vaccine.

In early May, there was a thread for the discussion of symptoms for those of us who have had H1N1 (or believe we have had it) and we discussed bodt temp.

Nearly everyone reported a LOWER than normal body temp-

I felt that I had a very high fever for weeks, when it was, in fact, a degree or more BELOW average. We discussed on that thread that thermal imagery in airports wouldn't pick it up, not would doctors believe we had flu.

As well- be advised that the military is deploying at home for the outbreak:

Interesting observations there.
I travelled interstate a few days ago and seem to have picked up something nasty in transit and I *did* have this year's standard fluvax shot around march-april (that's before swine flu was actually identified I think) so I might possibly have it :O

Got the standard symptoms like light-headed, a bit of shaking and mildish aches n pains in back & arms plus bad congestion. The temperature thing is spot on as yesterday I had a temp about 0.5C below normal but tonight it's around the 38.4C (101F+). Seems to be under control for now with paracetamol, codeine phosphate and phenylephrine hydrochloride (flu tabs) plus 1000mg or more vitamin C daily. No sign of improvement by monday morning and I'll be getting in touch with a specialised clinic but the problem might be getting there as it's over 10km away and I'm not really fit for driving myself especially if I go downhill. If I can notice some improvement I'll just treat as I am now.

I've had much worse influenza than this in the past and from that experience the major risk is pneumonia caused by a secondary bacterial infection. I DO have a reasonable immune system but the machinery is getting a little long in the tooth now so the less risks the better.

Update - just checked again and now 39.1C (102F) and doubt I'll be posting any more tonight but did just take couple of tabs to work on the fever

If 30% don't get all the symptoms then there really is no way to tell if we may had it or not.

In the last two months alone I had two episodes of flu like symptoms without fever. Both times, sore throat, sore muscles, very tired, couching and sneezing... the typical cold symptoms or mild flu symptoms. I did as usual and it was over in just two days.
was it the mexican flu or something else? no way to tell at this point I'm afraid.

For those interested, I like to add my 'miracle' cure for those who feel sick. Well, it's not a cure but it does work wonders even when sooo simple.
You need two things: lots of Camomile and (european) Linden.

Ever since I was a child my grandmother used these and I still do, even give it to my kid and to my cats when they are sick.

I'm talking hot tea here. (read: HOT hot)
Just keep drinking, a strong (fresh) camomile tea during the day, I suggest not more then 4 cups a day because it might upset your tummy. Drink it hot and keep it in your throat at bit when it's sore, it will help your body fight infections.

In the evenening, or before you are planning to go to sleep, drink hot Linden tea, I prefere it fresh and straight from the tree, but bags are ok aswell if you soak them long enough to have a strong tea. Two cups before sleeping, drink as hot as you can, then wrap yourself into a blanket and sleep.
The Linden will make you sweat, a lot!, you'll need a shower when you wake up

My granny used to say "you'll sweat out the desease overnight", and truthfully, I always feel much better when I wake up.

These two common herbs I always have in storage and they are good for everything, even for using in steam-baths.

In reference to my earlier post a couple of days ago, sought medical advice and have been assured I don't have H1N1 but some other lesser 'ordinary' influenza bug. My immune system has all but knocked it out in less than a week with only over-the-counter non-prescription medication.

The recommended treatment over the next few days is to kick back in a warm place and take plenty of fluids - I can handle that easily

Bumping this thread because H1N1 is spreading. For some reason this important info isn't being published.

When the Swine flu hit a few years ago, my husband caught it..This was a rapidly deteriorating disease. Started with slight cough mild body aches, fatigue and sub normal temp....Not even a low grade fever but lower than 97 degrees.

Over night the cough rapidly increased. By morning he was short of breath and the body aches were tremendous! He was so weak he needed help getting in the car. The doctor checked via nasal swab and it was positive for H1N1.

It did not last long and he made a quick recovery. Never had a high fever typical of flu!

To the poster whom suggested the "sweat box" I would say proceed with caution! raising the body temperature to a high degree to induce a fever is dangerous. It quickly leads to dehydration and severe weakness. There are other mechanisms taking place in the immune system that are activated to fight disease. You do not have to induce fever for this process to work.

I truly believe this is not H1N1 or the same we saw a few years ago. This is much more virulent than what we have seen and leaves some people in critical condition. Not your straight influenza by any means. I do not think the doctors nor WHO or the CDC understands exactly what they are dealing with. This sounds much more like a strain of Avian flu based on the condition of the patients.

I am an RN and a research scientist. This is a flu that has mutated into a virus we have not dealt with in US. This could be MERS with started in the Middle East. They need to get a handle on this quickly in order to avoid a pandemic. We are not being told the "whole" truth here. The last thing the Govt. wants is a panic sweeping through our troubled country....

I will do some research and see what I can find out. Star and Flag for this thread!

Thanks,
Pax

I am quoting you, because I think that everyone needs to read what you said. Actually, after you pull some more info together, please start your own thread so it doesn't get buried.

I have been sick for the past several days with something flu-like, but I have been thinking it was just something viral and not the true flu because my temp was around 97 (today 96.7). I know from experience (worked in the ER for several years) that low temps can be seen with some viruses (as well as a 'shift' in lab CBC labs), but that a high fever is typical of the flu.

This really makes me wonder now. There seems to be a huge outbreak of this in our community, and many people are reporting low body temp. It isn't fun, and I don't feel so hot, but I wouldn't say it is a bad flu. I have seen what true influenza does to a person. This is not that bad.

I agree; something else is going on. I worked in the ER during the initial swine flu panic. Unless my memory is totally off, I recall a high fever as a very common symptom. A flu strain without a fever? Makes me think that it either is NOT a flu, or else perhaps it is engineered. As in...not naturally occurring. What better way to make a bioweapon? Except, while it seems very virulent, so far it doesn't seem dangerous. So why? When asking this question, I always look to the money. What better way to cause a panic and mad rush for a vaccine?

That would be worth BILLIONS.

Hi, I have just recovered from the worst flu I've ever had in my life. Let me tell you some interesting things about my sickness...

.My symptoms
*High fever/ cold sweats ( more intense than regular " I'm in bed for three days then fine" flu)
*Very sore joints. Every single joint, especially the knees, hips, shoulder rotators, and fingers felt like i needed oil, like the Tin Man.
*Every major muscle, especially quads, forearms, back, was intensely SORE, but also incredibly RESTLESS. I kept getting the feeling that I wasent in control of my nervous system. I was up for one whole nite, took three steaming hot baths to sooth my anxious nerves. It works for a while, but needs to be repeated for relief.
*My already problematic Carpal Tunnel like problem was increased to complete loss of my hands ( both) they just relax into claws.
*Kidney pain.

Her symptoms
* all of the above plus,
*explosive diarrhea
*Migraine

Yes I agree, the virus is hitting seemingly healthy people, but this could be my misunderstanding of what the nature of a virus is. All we've ever been told from the MSM is get your flu shot, children and the elderly are most affected....but that's probably not true of all viruses. My bad.

Also if you caught and survived the 2009 strain you have SOME immunity to this mutation.

It's probably more than one thing at once.

Previous exposure
Poor Diet
Grains in diet
ANTIBIOTICS AND GRAINS GIVEN TO PLANT EATING STOCK ANIMALS ( this is key)
Metals present in BIG AGRA SYNTHETIC FERTILIZERS AND PESTICITES (metal! Think mercury! AND THEY FEED THIS TO PIGS)
Oh, and that lab escape that happened in Russia in the 1970s.......of a hybridized virus

FYI hybrids exhibit "heterosis" which means they are not a purebred strain but a mix of two already stabilized strains and the are much more vigorous than the "original parent strain"
