It was people in the MSM like Chris Mathews who attacked this woman, without even knowing the circumstances of why she called and assumed she MUST be a racist white woman.

'Hardball with Chris Matthews' for Tuesday, July 21 - Hardball with Chris Matthews- msnbc.com

PAGE: None of this makes sense, first of all. We know Skip Gates. You know, 58 years old. He’s about 5 foot 7. He walks with a cane. He—like he put up a fight with the police?

MATTHEWS: He’s got a neighbor that doesn’t recognize him. She called in 911.

PAGE: Well, yes. Yes.

MATTHEWS: Got a cop in there saying there’s a burglary in progress.

PAGE: Right.

MATTHEWS: He shows up. Officer Crowley—I love the fact that everybody’s Irish. He shows up—
PAGE: Yes.

MATTHEWS: —and is told that the guy inside the house is a burglar. By the neighbor. So, it isn’t all his fault, by any means.
PAGE: This man is a superstar, not just in Cambridge.

MATTHEWS: Yes, I know.

PAGE: It must have been the only person in the neighborhood who didn’t know who it was. Unbelievable.

MATTHEWS: Clarence, you guys are—you’re academic [to Dyson], and you’re lettered [to Page]. You know what the guy is. The neighbor didn’t know who he was. The cop didn’t know who he was. What do you think happened? And what does it say about America? Does it say anything at all? Michael!

DYSON: Absolutely. First of all, your neighbor doesn’t know you. You don’t have to be famous. It’s just your neighbor.

MATTHEWS: Well, she’s the one that called 911!

DYSON: That’s my point. You don’t know the guy that lives next door to you?

MATTHEWS: She was profiling him!

(LAUGHTER)

DYSON: Yes. Yes. She saw his profile and called in: “Yes, this guy with the cane looks like he’s going to beat me down.” But the point is—

MATTHEWS: See, what I don’t understand is, she knew her neighbor was African-American. He had a certain look. She sees a guy with a certain look. She wasn’t profiling, or what—what was going on here?

Absolutely disgusting. It was actually Chris Mathews and this panel that was racially profiling the 9-1-1 caller! How ironic!

Matthews is a douche bag of the highest order.

Liberals only see what they believe.

Reality be damned.

I would say that this woman will be very rich, very soon. Matthews, in an intentional way has definitely defamed this woman. Damages for defamation are calculated by multiplying how many people heard the defamation multiplied by the dollar amount of the defamation.

I hope so. This poor woman got hammered by DOING THE RIGHT THING! The only problem? She called the police on a close friend of the President of the United States. For that, she must be destroyed.

I've got to agree, really despicable on Matthews' part.

I can't say I've ever been a fan anyway, he's like the lefty counterpart to all the slimy rightwing talk show hosts - relentlessly partisan.

At least Olbermann is funny...

Either this woman is new to the neighborhood or really dense. New York is a lot more racially diverse than my neighborhood but an old black man with a cane would stand out in any neighborhood. She was really stupid for calling this in. A better tactic would be to say there may be an older person in distress at that address.

She didn't do the right thing, she called the cops on a man who was trying to get into his own home and made it sound that he was endangering the neighborhood. If someone in suburbia did this you guys would be screaming "entrapment."

You do realize that Gate's house had recently been broken in to, right?

Right, no snitchin' is it?

If you see someone trying to break into your neighbors house, pretend you didnt see anything.

Or else.

This is what the country has come to, isnt "change" just swell?

Congrats, America.

It's still the police's job to determine what the situation really is. Once they'd determined Gates was the owner of the home the situation should have been defused.

I would hope that one of my neighbors would call the police if they saw someone trying to "break-in" whether it was just someone who forgot their keys or not.

tactic?

reporting what seems to be a crime in progress now must involve employing a 'tactic' that is basically, according to you, saying something completely false?

now citizens must be so fearful of thought policing that now we must all participate in lock-step political correctness?

and do so, during what may be an emergency?

is this a joke?

the inmates have truly taken over the asylum.

end political correctness by refusing to play the game. its that easy.

it was defused, the cop left, and gates followed him out of his house, shouting abuse and insult at the cop.

gates is a race baiter, and the community organiser in chief instinctively blamed the pigs, man. yeah, the racist, white pig.

talk about 'profiling':

Entering your own home is NOT a crime in progress unless you have been barred by the court from doing so. A few years back I lost my key and had to climb in a window to get in and the cops showed up. All it took was showing ID stating that I lived there and a verification of my phone number to end the conversation. My new neighbor didn't recognize me and no, there was no confrontation between us. Standard procedure folks.

It was assumed that the woman called because she thought black people where breaking into a house. We know now that wasn't the case.

But what if she did say a black person was breaking into the house? So what? She was making a description to the police so they could do their job better. If she knew they were black and didn't tell the police, she could have been criticized for withholding information.

If you see a perceived crime in progress and you call 911, they right thing to do is to give a detailed description of the perpetrator....black, white, mexican, tall, short, any description is helpful.

So you didn't yell at the officer and accuse him of being racist and everything was fine after you showed your id?

Thats exactly what happened with Gates. Except he yelled at the officer, accused him of being racist and then he showed his id. After which he continued to make a scene.

Wonder why his situation didn't have the same exact ending that yours had?

Entering your own home is not a crime, folks. Calling the cops and claiming a nonexistent crime is progress actually is, especially if you infer that nonexistent threats were made with a cane which automatically amplified the situation. Common sense also would dictate that you know what your neighbors look like. Like I said, she should have told the cops someone older appeared to be in distress at that address and they would have shown up anyway. Accusing a homeowner of burglarizing themselves is retarded and a bad way to begin a neighborhood feud.

You mean you forgot to chase the officer out of your house shouting insults and abusing him?

Kids! Dont forget to play your race card, when you are 'harassed' by the pigs!

Dont break into your own home without it!

One of my cops WAS black and no, I do not yell at cops who are doing their job. In his defense, Gates has experienced a much higher level of racism in his life than most people on this board and is entitled to question the motives of cops bothering black people in his neighborhood. Ever hear of "arrested for driving black?" That goes on every day in New York, Florida and the rest of the country.

I find it ironic that you guys love to bitch about conspiracies and discrimination, but here you are defending....racism. Nice!

So you believe the woman who called 911 is the true criminal here? Maybe before calling 911 a person needs to fully assess the situation 1st. If you see someone getting robbed on the street the best way is to ignore it because you can't be certain that there really is a crime going on. It could just be a couple of guys messing around, right?

you dont know that.

you are making it up, much the way fools like gates makes up racism to justify their own existence.

so, investigating possible crimes in progress is now suddenly 'bothering black people'?

no one is defending racism but you, you are the one defending the likes of gates.
