I think the best way to fight zombie plaque is with a good zombie toothpaste.
Who new they had dentists back then?

Yes, it certainly *is* in the Bible, just where the OP said it would be - Zechariah 14:12. That's in the Old Testament. Find the book called "Zechariah". Then find Chapter 14 in that book. Then find verse 12 in that chapter, and there it is. Or better yet, go to Google and type, "Zechariah 14:12" (*INCLUDING* the quotation marks), and you'll find the text.

This plague could be all sorts of different things. Why not MRSA, the so-called "flesh-eating bacteria"? That would have a similar effect. Some sort of virulent Hansen's Disease (leprosy), pretty much any wasting disease, but happening much faster than most.

More likely, it's just another metaphoric passage promising bad things to happen to those who war against "Jerusalem". I wouldn't take it literally.

Kinda reminds me of the old newsreels that you see of the atomic bomb victims in Japan. Lot's of those people just walked out half dead and blasted.
Horrible visual.

I keep a “bug out bag” and survival equipment just in case the poo hits the fan, but for fun I call it my zombie apocalypse kit.

I keep a kit too, heed my words, THE ZOMPALYPSE IS COMING

their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths

Nuclear Blast? Radiation will do this to people.

I'm not really sure what that means. Like someone else said, it could possibly refer to nuclear fallout. There is a similar verse in Ezekiel that many believe is prophesying a nuclear Holocaust. It mentions the people being killed and having their flesh rot away before they even hit the ground.

The verse that especially perplexes me is in Revelation where it states how people will wish for death 'but death will flee from them.'

I doubt it means a Hollywood-style brain eating zombie outbreak but it does make me wonder if there is some plague that makes people decompose while alive- possibly like necrosis. I've always been curious over that verse because if taken literally, it sounds like it will be impossible to die for a short while.

Also interesting and reminiscent of the verse in Zachariah is the account of Jesus' death on the cross. When Jesus died there was a great earthquake, and the dead came out of their tombs and walked the city streets.

See Matthew 27:51-53 for the exact text.

I would like to think this is about zombies, but the arguments many of the members here have made in regards to nuclear fallout and radiation poisoning is probably far more likely.

I’m not saying I’m abandoning my zombie plague theory altogether, but I will admit that radiation poisoning seems like another good interpretation.

I also love this quote; it’s very eerie and interesting. But I believe it mentions them as the Holy Dead, or saints who go into town. I usually interpreted this as the Holy Dead returning to spread the word and truth about the Messiah.

But thank you for bringing it up. Many I have spoken to think of this, or apocalyptical stories of the dead rising as zombies. But most that talk about the faithful being risen say the Holy Dead, the Saints, or the Incorruptible dead things along those lines.

Though a bit strange I do not think they are talking about flesh eating undead cannibals, but rather the pure and perfect bodies of the “Children of God”.

Don't forget Isaiah 26:19. "Your dead shall live, their corpses shall rise. O dwellers in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For your dew is a radiant dew, and the earth will give birth to those long dead."

Remember Lazarus. Dead for four days; Jesus raised him from the dead. Not as a zombie, but a healthy, living man.

It's the same with these folks. Probably the recently deceased, raised to life as a spill-over from Jesus' resurrection. These folks would have died again, just as Lazarus died again.

Regarding the OP, it seems to me this is nothing more than a picturesque way of describing the enemies of God being struck down instantly. No zombie invasion required.

I am fully willing to admit that like much of the apocalyptic prophesies there are many different ways of interpreting what they mean. It could imply any number of horrible fates.

I just thought a zombie plague would be a fun way of looking at this one, and hoped others on ATS knew of other prophesies, or had any additional information that might support this hypothesis.

Because let’s face it, if we all have to die in some horrible apocalyptic ending I think zombies would be the most fun. (At least until they ate my face off while I screamed bloody murder, but we all have to go sometime.)

That sounds like what will happen during a nuclear strike. We can expect nuclear bombs to be used during WW111

It also sounds like the poor old age pensioners standing in the queue for hours on end in my local post office!

I'm a huge zombie fan but no matter how far back I go in zombie history I can't find what is supposed to have caused the dead to come back to life? Someone said radiation is mentioned but I don't know where. . .
Anyone got any ideas?

You just might have something there. There are a lot of meth heads over here and it's something that's really hard to watch. What a sad waste

So you don't think zombies exist!!? There was an outbreak in 2006 in Toronto.

I think this is a brilliant idea.

Akwardness, I myself have had two zombie dreams this week. I've never remembered having any before if I have ever had them. The first one, my family and I, were dashing away trying anything to get away. I was trying to let people know what was happening, but running in an infuriated panic. The zombies spread their sickness in a weird way in my dream, spewing liquids rather than the normal chomp chom nom nom nom. The second tho, was a bit weirder than the first. Once again, the family and I, trying to get away as fast as we can, this time the zombies weren't spewing, rather they were mutating their bodies into hidious abominations with teeth gnashing at you from everywhere. We ended up escaping to this random elevator after the fact they had a hold of one of my sons for a really scary part of the dream. The elevator led us into an underground casino. Yea, woke up with a wtf moment. Lol.

I have a question ...

Would you consider Lazarus a zombie?

And if so... did he hunger for brains?

Please forgive me if this has already been posted as I am running out of time this evening and did not read the entire thread.

However, here is the complete passage from that one holy book thingy....

12 This is the plague with which the LORD will strike all the nations that fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. 13 On that day men will be stricken by the LORD with great panic. Each man will seize the hand of another, and they will attack each other. 14 Judah too will fight at Jerusalem. The wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected—great quantities of gold and silver and clothing. 15 A similar plague will strike the horses and mules, the camels and donkeys, and all the animals in those camps.

I like to note the hand to hand combat statement......that makes me giggle. I'm a big fan of zombies.

Oh...and....first post. I've been lurking for a week and I'm addicted to the site =)
