WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A vocal group of conspiracy theorists known as "birthers" are riling the White House with their persistent claim that Barack Obama is not an American citizen and therefore ineligible to be president. The claim that the United States' first African-American president was born in Kenya, not Hawaii, first emerged during his presidential campaign, but it has garnered more media attention in the summer "silly season," a traditionally slow news period when many Americans are on vacation. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs looked exasperated at his briefing on Monday when a reporter asked him, "Is there anything you can say that will make the birthers go away?" "If I had some DNA, it wouldn't assuage those that don't believe he was born here," Gibbs replied. "But I have news for them and for all of us: The president was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, the 50th state of the greatest country on the face of the earth. He's a citizen.

So let's say Obama DOES produce a legal birth certificate, short and long... and hell, offers a piece of his umbilical cord for DNA sampling... how many of you would accept that?

Really... would any of you accept the fact the the document was an actual birth certificate, issued by the state... knowing that it could be forged or faked by the government?

Yeah. Thats why I always figured it's stupid. These people honestly beleive that this man was elected, but he was chosen by bankers. The only reason he would of been disqualified is to cause major riots on election night. Which didnt happen.

For all the Barry supporters I have a question. If all your reasons for why he belongs in office is accurate, Then why don't you just show us the proof? He should have nothing to fear by showing it. If he is not what he says he is then just let the pieces fall where they may. Let America decide whether or not he qualifies!

This has got to come down to the state level. If a few states require proof of eligibility before the election of 2012, Obama will be toast, because he cannot provide it.

If he showed his long form BC and it was verified by the doctor who delivered him and the hospital had all the records, Then yes, yes, I would accept that.

First, I you are willing to let this drop without clarification I think you should change your avatar, you don't deserve to use it.

Second, The true patriot's will never let this die, until he comes clean with this information requested. So don't ask us to let it die, I just get more determined each day that passes. To me the lack of response from them reinforces my feelings on the matter. WHERE IS THE G'DAM CERTIFICATE!

Whether he is natural born citizen or not...you will never find out and i think the birthers should focus on the hell hole this world is in right now.With all that energy they could actually do something worthwhile.Like the other poster said.It would be as easy as blinking for them to forge a document and say here you go! here is the proof! if enough pressure mounted on the whitehouse to release the birth certificate.It's a lose lose situation.Try and do something productive for the future of America.

The founding fathers felt the need to make it necessary for the leader of our nation to be a naturally born citizen, because they feared that a foreigner would one day destroy America from the inside.

1.) That is a Certificate of Live Birth, not a Birth Certificate. There is a difference. Research is your friend.

2.) It could and should be nullified and voided if Obama is not eligible to be President based on his place of birth.
