I've been wondering, since January 20th, what is the big hurry to get all thise bills passed. Pelosi and Reid are pushing bills through the house and the senate with little or no debate. They are not giving Congress time to read the bill, and they they are adding 300 pages of amendments at three in the morning, or at midnight, and they are expected to vote on the bill the next day.
I don't thing this is what the founding fathers expected, and I sure as heck kow that this is not what the average, everyday, American wants.
Why is Obama so intent on getting his health care bill signed befor the August recess? Could it be that he is afraid that the voters will be having demonstrations in front of their senators and representatives' offices, protesting Universal Health Care, Cap and Trade, and demanding that the bailouts cease? That the stimulus money be put on hold?
Obama has an agenda that is more than turning this country into a socialist state. And I think that is why he's pushing these bills through. He wants a mechinism in place that will let him move on to his real agenda, whatever it is?
My wife and I discuss this daily. We are getting prepared for the worst while we hope for the best, but the truth of the matter is we are both afraid. We are afraid of our friends who don't see it, or don't know what to do. We are afraid for our families, and most of all we are afraid for our country.
What are ATS'ers opinions on this.

The bills they're pushing through in such a hurry are things they've been working on for quite a while (years, actually). Now that the Democrats are in power and able to slide these things through with little resistance, they're working as hard as they can to get as much of it through as possible before the 2010 elections.

But should honest, open debate, plus time to read the bills before you debate and vote be an option.
What happened to the transparency Obama promised. Suddenly, every bill is an "emergency." Or so it seems.

Absolutely! In fact, there should be a legal obligation for senators and congressmen to read the entire bill before voting on it, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Just another in a long line of broken campaign promises.

Every bill is an "emergency" because, when labeled as such, the average Joe isn't going to question the content of the bill or why it was voted into law, he'll just assume it's for his own good.

There's rarely an actual emergency, it's just scaremongering to drum up support for the legislation.

The more legislation they pass gives the impression that they are doing their job. This in return could lead to more votes and the DEMs retaining their hold of Congress in 2010. Fortunate for them and Obama's popularity, the media has been very helpful in getting some of these measures passed so quickly. Their lack of criticism and journalistic favoritism amazes me. If this had been a Republican Congress passing bills blindly, I don't think the MSM would be as generous.

Because the sky's going to fall if they don't, ya know?

People are going to lose their jobs, be in much debt, the rich are going to get richer, people are going to get angry, the stock markets gonna crash... wait I think I've been describing everything that's happened up to date?

I think they're making it a bigger deal than it is because they want to push their agenda (which God knows what that is) without anyone catching on. Make it seem urgent enough or that it will help the economy and almost any ignorant congress person will vote for it.

VP Biden was so excited one day, getting staff together, canceling meetings. . . . a staffer asked him what the deal was.

Biden replied, "The president wants to introduce me to young chinese, he said it was the most important thing we've ever done!"

The staffer looked confused and turned to a secret service agent standing against a wall, "What is going on?"

The agent leaned over and said, "Obama wants to introduce Biden to euthanasia."

Ok, promise, last joke, I swear.

The only way to stop this is to let our voices be heard. Annoy the hell out of any dems in your area!

I wouldn't guarantee the Dems are going to hold the house and senate in 2010. Obama's numbers are falling, and there seems to be a lot grumbling among the populace about making some real changes in 2010.
I'm just afraid the country can't hold out until then. If unemployment continues to rise, we may see tent cities in Washington again, just like in the Great Depression.
I just think everybody needs to take a couple of deep breaths, slow down and look at what's being passed. We need a district by district count of the letters, emails, and phone calls that are against some of these bills. We need to know if this is what the people want.

I agree, and I've been preaching it on this board and others until I'm blue in the face. I'm beginning to think most people are just to cynical and to lazy to care what the government is doing to them and their families.

Bingo! Thus the reason for their urgency. Sooner or later a majority of Americans will face the cold hard truth of Obama's "Fundamental change". They are counting on the probability it will be too late for anything to be done about it by the time most of us wake up. I'm even beginning to hear rumblings from folks I know for a fact voted for him. The country will be well on its way to ruin by the 2010 elections.

Have you ever dealt with a used car salesman that is trying to rush you to buy a certain car? He wants to get your signature and money before you have a chance to sleep on it or have it inspected.

That's what's going on here.
