As a university student, the first module we are required to complete is the plagiarism and attribution module. It stems not from some archaic
principle of right and wrong but from the following concept; that original thoughts and ideas should be correctly attributed to the person who has
created them as they have the right to be recognised.
It is their property.
It is an academic crime of the highest nature to claim someone elses work as your own. This is includes paraphrasing, direct quoting and outright
theft of an idea and saying it is yours.
Anyone who uses someone elses ideas should note either in text or footnote the source and author of the work. Pretty simple you would think... but
academics around the world have lost their jobs and become unemployable for that very reason.
