Has anyone caught this show? Its one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. On last nights episode they claimed only black men suffer through injury/depression, instead of going to the doctor. Which is amazing, because all the men in my family are like that. The problem is, we're all white! I'm not sure what happened, maybe we have black blood in us?

What exactly is CNN trying to accomplish wit this show? It comes off as completely racist to me. Yet another propaganda tool to make black people think everything that happens to them is due to their race. Everything they talk about on that show happens to all people, not just black people.

where exactly does it say only black men suffer from depression or injury?

i watched the video. granted it emphasized black men a lot, but thats who it was geared towards. if it was geared towards british people living in the US it would emphasize that.

Whats the point of focusing on one group when all of humanity shares not only that issue but every issue they bring up? They're trying to convince everyone that these problems are specific to black people. Its not black in America, its humans in America!

well maybe since black men are apparently at the biggest disadvantage, (1/2 are going to get help compared to white men) maybe they are focusing on the worst part. thats what i would suggest in most problems.

EDIT: also america maybe will look less like it doesnt care for minorities.

Sorry, no conspiracy here!

The opening comments stated that depression effects many groups, but black American men rarely seek help... possible due to the stigma that accompanies being diagnose with depression!

Ciao!

I'm sorry, but its a problem that ALL people deal with. To focus on black men the way they do does nothing but victimize a group that isn't special. All men have trouble getting help for depression.

ahhhh

so ONLY MEN suffer from depression or injury then.
got it. using your logic women are clearly depression free.

dont "victimize" men. all genders suffer from depression. men are not special.

I think it is odd that you react in this way to a show that concerns the particular situation of a group of people in the US. By discussing the predicament of black males in the US, there is no negations of other groups' concerns.

I think you object to issues relating to people who are not like you. It is as if you feel they are getting away with something you feel you are entitled to.

I am white and used to be depressed. I used to avoid help because of the stigma attached. I am happy as hell now because I got help. Becoming depressed is no different than getting a cold or having heart disease.

It can be caused by your genetic make up and by your life from day one. Your brain is different either because of your genes or by how your life has caused it to change just like a muscle changes when you work out.

Do not live in depression because much of it is curable. It will take some years though if you have lived with it for a long time.

Most of all do not be ashamed because again it is no different than any other illness that we humans have to endure.

Living with depression will cause other mental and non mental health problems to occur so get help early.

Nothing wrong with having TV shows directed at one race or the other, but a show called "White in America" would cause lots of chaos and I ask other races to chill out on that stigma as well. If you don't chill you will change America to communist rather than free this goes for all races and cultures.

Live and let live.

Really this thread is about discrimination... correct?

Yes, the program should of been about why most men with depression refuse to seek help. It is a problem not for black American men, but all men that struggle with depression and yes, they usually refuse to publicly acknowledge it, even to a significant other.

I will say with confidence that the white American male is being shun for the mistakes of the past and is currently being discriminated against and the courts have recognized it with recent decisions, i.e. Ricci v. DeSafano; Title VII of the Civil Rights Act: Reverse discrimination is still discrimination!

My supported thoughts and views...

Ciao!

Well, you completely misunderstand me then. I think this generalizes black men and assigns them special problems that aren't special at all. It has nothing to do with your reasoning.

Ahhhh reverse racism is nothing new. You just didn't see it with the past 30 years of "white man's burden".

Its not just that it constantly raising the "white boogy man" specter, but they generalize black men and paint them as vicitims. From my perspe4ctive, this series is all around racist. Not just towards white, but towards black people as well.

i think the point he is trying to make is that to even focus on one particular race (black people) is just divding people even more. "black in america, black in america 2? will there be a third? this backwards racism is counter productive, they want equality and so forth but they have shows like this and programs like affirmative action and national groups like the NAACP to advocate thier cause, its a double edged sword, its racist. if they want equality, there shouldnt be any AA no NAACP, no programs that single them out... if they really want equality anyways..

I think CNN has swung to more black friendly programing since the Obama campaign began. I guess they feel with Obama around they will have more black viewers so they are trying to cater to that audience.

Nothing wrong with TV catering to certains dems
