Why does the US prohibit message sending into space?

Why does the US and most SETI scientist prohibit message sending into space? in contrast to a couple of Russian scientist [denied SETI membership]..The Russian scientist Alexander Zaitsev was even denied access to radiotelescopes because he wanted to send messages, he stated that we can also help other lifeforms and help them in their quest about whether they are alone or not..
They did it before with the voyager and we still do it with tv signals right? but still most SETI and US government officials only want to act as an "ear"..why is that? They do know more then we do but also about the eventual hostilities of alien intelligence?
What is your thought on this?

Well for one, they have shown that the TV signals turn into undecipherable noise after only 1 or 2 light years so they arent really going out that far.

Secondly, what happens if a "bad" intelligence out there heres something from us or misunderstands what we are sending and decides to come by and squash the sound.

The root issue is that we dont REALLY know whats out there and what they will think of our signals sent out there...so the mainstream official stance is to just listen and stay very quiet like a mouse until we figure out whats going on.

Its the same way a child abuser convinces his victim not to talk to anyone. All those people out there are bad, want to hurt you, and take you away from everyone you love if you say anything.

Ok i recon, but didn't they changed their doctrine on this? i mean the whole thing with the Voyager was to "reach out and touch", now they seem very strict on not sending messages.Why their change on this?.contact should come from both sides right?
But people probably think we are indians with smoke signals and then the evil Spaniards come with their guns to kill us..

They want the world to be alone so that we may never connect with the oneness of the universe.

i think the changes are higher that we self destruct or get hit by an asteroid then some evil alien lifefrom to destroy us..I think the theory of Alexander Zaitsev is much more plausible, and i mean why whould an ET civilization destroy such a rare lifeform in this corner of the milky way with so much abundance of "emptiness"...[of life]..

I ve used the SETI screensaver before and i wondered if more people would use it and connect to the grid and then maybe we would find that artificial signal faster with more calculation power? but i am not certain about their intentions, i mean what happened with the "wow" signal?

But still it must have been pretty lame for Dan Werthimer[head scientists SETI group] that he was also a member of the homebrew computer club. Along with Bill Gates, Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs etc., the only difference is, Dan still has the same paycheck as 30 years ago and they are billionairs..What are their intentions? of SETI?

Is the OP saying that the general public is not allowed to make broadcasts into space? Radio or Television alike?

I think what XKrossX was saying was that normal tv or radio signal become dispersed and blurred after a while, i mean strong signals that may reach about 70 light years[our limit of "receiving"]..In the docu the main doctrine at this moment is to not send those strong signals in the US, the scientists acknowledge that..

Yea that's what the galaxy needs. Interstellar SPAM!

I think that if we started sending interstellar spam to other species in the galaxy we will start an interstellar war!

Perhaps.. just maybe the US is prevented from doing so because of WHAT they touched. Perhaps humanity doesnt visit the moon because of WHAT they found. so lets do it anyway. honestly. who would know? LMFAO!! but seriously. lets do it. Space is not owned by the US. I can go back home and do this as well. Africa I am sure pays more attention to earth than sky.honestly who do these people think they are, governing space now. I will send a laser SOS or something on the moon and see what happens. though it will take seven minutes to get there

I wonder how many people would modify their Tesla coils.
A focusing terminal would be attached to the top coil.
Problem is the Military Industrial Complex might give the order
for a half sphere terminal the no work sign and the order will

Finding something they don't want to has always been an issue.
First it was the van Allen Radiation road block.
That upset von Braun.
And now there are still deniers of any Moon walking.
The new Moon photos might still be unconvincing.
With all the large Moon photos that have been studied with strange
features the ones now saying are man made might not be so.

Well one logical reason would be that if you have unregistered data sources spewing into the cosmos, that may interfere with accurate recording of genuine extra terrestrial signals. I mean washing machines have apparantly interfered with such efforts in the past, imagine therefore the consequences of deliberate comms attempts shooting around the system. Wont make for a clear picture really will it?
Another thing, and this I cant really argue with , even though it SUCKS ... Maybe SETI dont want the general public sending into outer space, because they know that although the majority of people are reasonably well adjusted folks, they also know that there are some complete A holes out there who might be xenophobic enough to send death threats to " Teh Evil Space Alieons !"
