according to experts its algae but what do you think? doesnt look like algae, doesnt act like algae, why is it floating on the water and why is there so much of it. if it were normal, it wouldnt be news... any ideas?

"Enormous blobs of thick, black, gooey biological material have been spotted drifting in the waters off Alaska's northern coast, and nobody is quite sure what they are.

Alaskan hunters first noticed the ooze early last week drifting miles offshore in the frigid arctic waters of the Chuckchi Sea, according to Anchorage Daily News. Local officials and the US Coast Guard flew in to investigate, and residents say they can't remember seeing anything like it before."

Reminds me of the movie creep show with the black blob in the lake.

I would be hard pressed after seeing it to believe this is natural. It's definitely a strange substance and having hair in it seems kind of odd.

Maybe it's some type of cleaning algae as in cleans the ocean surface kind of like how bottom feeders keep the floors of the ocean cleaned, or piranha's scavenge food to keep a pond clean. Maybe we've polluted the ocean so bad we are just now able to recognize them.

I think that as we mess up this world more and more, we are going to see more and more weird stuff happening and showing up. Just like we have gotten diseases like HIV that pop up and take lots of lives, one day we just might see some new large organism like this blob show up and start devouring living tissue.
Silly science fiction movies like "the blob" might just one day turn out to be science reality.
I wouldn't want to accidentally go overboard into that thing.

There are over 30,000 different types of algae. I suspect this is one of them or one that hasnt been officially logged as of yet.

In your infinite wisdom, what does algae act like? How is it allowed to look?

why is it floating on the water

Because it's algae!

and why is there so much of it.

As Above!

if it were normal, it wouldnt be news... any ideas?

Because there's so much of it?
