That is awesome! It may have been posted elsewhere, but I haven't caught it before. Awesome video find, SilQ!

I was confused by one thing in the video, and maybe someone can help me understand. When it began, there was a guy pretty much holding the trigger down with his arm fully extended holding it one handed. There was almost no kick. However, later they showed the three guys target practicing with it, and they had it up against their shoulder and it was really kicking upwards. Different rounds or something?

well i think losing your only way of setting your sight ranges would be a bit of a cramp

The XM-8 is the 5.56 or now maybe 6mm part of the OICW program. It is not the part with the computers and such. That was seperate. The XM-8 is pretty much a modifed G-36.

Nice vid dude - never seen that one before

Devil wasp - you are indeed thinking of the OICW. This is different then the XM8. Besides - the OICW and (I would assume) the XM8 are designed to be of use even when battery power fails. "Crashing" of the computers is not really of concern - they are doing small tasks like finding ranges. Loss of these coputers simply forces the user to use traditional sights, thus your example with the AK's is a bit off base because the rifle can still be fired in the exact same manner as those AK's your talking about. The concern should be for battery life and the ruggedness of the computers. These devices offer advantages only if they can be used.

The XM8 is the assault rifle component of the OICW. It is basically a lighweight modular 5.56mm assault rifle. It's barrell length is 12.5 compared to the 18 inches for the M16 inches long, which cuts a lot of the range and stopping power. Bad freakin idea.

They may go with a 6mm bullet design that will improve stoping power.

XM8 is a normal rifle like M16 or M4. It uses normal scope but it can also use computerized scope. There is no electronics in the weapon itself. The difference between m4 and XM8 is that XM8 is much lighter (2.6 kg) more accurate and very reliable. You can also quickly exchange the barrels (508mm, 318 mm, or 229 mm - commando version). The new version of XM8 will probably fire 6.8x43 mm ammo compactible with current M16 cartriges. There is also the possbilty the M8 will use some kind of keramic barrel (lighter and no so much handguard overheating so you can use it with 100 round beta- dualdrum magazine like machine gun).

The XM8 don't need to have shorter barrel. As I already said you can exchange it quickly and you can use also 508mm (m16) barrel.
