In the early summer of 2008, there was major media attention given to a local owner of a massage studio in Edmonton being charged by members of the police department for prostitution related offences.
The individual was later convicted in 2009 on seven out of eight prostitution-related charges, including two counts of keeping a common bawdy house and three counts of living on the avails of prostitution.
