I have been interested in parapsychological stuff for several years. I have been trying to achieve dream lucidity and OBE state from ever since then.

I was wondering: At what age must one be in order to experience an OBE? Or if chronological age is not necessarily the dependency (people's bodies can age at different rates, relative to their age), then at what point in physical / mental developement?

I am currently 13 years old. What parapsychological possibilities can I experience now (i.e., OBE, lucid dreaming, remote viewing, et cetera)?

I think it would be most invigorating to 'break free' from the laws of our world and enter the 'astral plane'.

Two days ago, I was reading this thread (theRiverGoddess's 'OBE's - they're real'). Well, ironically, that night (while laying in bed, trying to sleep) I started to experience what I knew was the beginning of an OBE but seemed like a different type of sleep. I initially felt a build-up of heat inside my upper body, then the blackness of the insides of my eyelids seemed to 'enlarge' (that may be difficult to understand). Just then, the thought of Shadow of Light's post in page two of the above thread (about forty percent down). Possibly through Placebo effect, I became either aware of or contemplating the possibility of negative entities in my room. I stopped from fear.

Was this the beginning of an OBE?

seems like you are on the path young one

i have experience instances quite similar to your on failed oobe attempts, keep at it and lose the fear, you'll get there.

btw i recommend doing a search on oobes or astral projections, there are many great threads on the subject with lots of helpful links.

I forgot to add, age doesn't matter at all, the earlier you start the better and easier to change the preconcieved notions of this reality in our mind.

I have a similar question..could an OBE allow you to travel to the past? It's the best way I could put it.
When I was aprox 15 I had what I considered a dream.
In the dream, I was looking up from a cellar (I told this in a thread here once never got much of a response so I will repeat it)
anyway I was looking up, and coming down the stairs into the cellar were my Mom, my Dad, my granddad and grandmother..my grandmother was carrying a baby, and the wind was blowing her skirt. When I told my Mom about the dream, she was very surprised..seems when I was 6 months old and they were visiting my Dads parents in Gainsville Tx, there was a tornado that came through and they had to go to the cellar...I was the baby my grandmother was carrying. My Mom or Dad NEVER told me about it...so what was it? An OBE into the past or a dream that slipped time?

i would say you probably unconsciously accessed the akashic records located somewhere in the astral plane or ...you managed to tap into an image stored in your memory from since you were an infant...but i don't know how far we can remember things, my earliest memory is from me being about 2 or 3 years old.

Thank you for the advice. I do agree that the earlier someone starts at doing something, the more influence it will have later in life. For instance, I remember reading that Tiger Woods's father shared this same notion.

NetStorm,
I have read a few books on remote viewing, and they seem to suggest that (with RV'ing, at least) viewing the past is possible, as well as the future. Although future viewing is not reading from the book of predestination. It is viewing the future as it exists with events now. For instance, if I were to view the president getting shot ten minutes from now, then alert the secret service, the chances of the president getting shot are reduced. The secret service probably took preventative measures and caught the shooter.

Netsorm- I had a very similar experience when i was about 10. I dreamed that I was on a deserted beach with my parents and then we had to run to a cave when it started raining. Later we all were having dinner in a restaurant. I told my parents about the dream in passing, and they said that when I was about 7 months old we went to cancun for a vacation. We were walking along beachy areas and a hurricane/major storm hit, and we had to squeeze into a small cave with a group of others. Later, we also went to a restaurant. (I was able to describe the setting with a fair amount of detail, like where we were sitting, the view...)

It was REALLY interesting that we can recall things in our dreams that happened so long ago! (6-7 months of age!)

my mother claims she had this ability as a child, and has vivid memories of OOBE travel at least from age 5 to 14........but THEN her Religious belief system kicked in hard and she stopped, believing it was from the Devil trying to get inside her body...........she is 62 now and says it never happened for her again after age 14, and she thanks her religion for that.

I am now 42 and am just developing this ability in myself......and have learned that FEAR and not TRUSTING in your saftey is a very limiting factor.

It was the same for my dad. He has always had the ability from early childhood. The first experience he remembers was waking up and looking down at his body. He wasn't even sure what was happening, just knew that it felt really cool.

Hi
From what I have read it can occur at any age. In some people it can occur spontaineously without effort or intent but generally you have to have a strong desire and willpower to make it happen. I see you have an interest in remote viewing. I tried it on a few occasions and to my surprise it worked I was so amazed. It does not require as much effort as Obe but you must have an emotional desire to achieve success. that was my experience with it. With others it might be different.
Like you I have a deep interest in every thing paranormal Ihave read loads of books and did my own investigations and study on most of the aspects of it. I must say that I am not an expert or an authority on paranormal activity. but I have my own theories on why these paranormal activities are possible.
I feel as if I am compelled to do it for some unknown reason.

Thanks for all your answers and suggestions all very interesting.
It's nice to have a place to come to where you can ask questions and people don't look at you and go.... huh?

Hey jake I'm 13 also and it seems like we're interested in the same stuff, prehaps you could help me out a little. I've never had and OBE but I've been interested in the paranormal since I was 6ish, of course I was frightened of it at that age, I have no more fear of it and I was just wondering if you could help out. ^.^ Anyone else who'd like to help too that would be kind.

When you are old enough to have a subconsious, you are old enough for OBEs. Many people belive even a fetus in the last trimester could potentially be capable of having an OBE. While these are not even scientifically proven in an adult, I believe they can happen and do happen to everyone at any age. Most just do not have the knowledge of them and think them to be no more than a dream.

That is excellent! I know no more than any other person on this board (I am seeking help as well), so you might want to conduct a search.

ImAlreadyPsycho, I am beginning to think that too. I may have even had OBEs before, and either do not remember them or dismissed them as dreams.

You were able to help, thanks Hydralisk. So now I know I am capable of leaving my body parapsychologically, but it seems generating enough will is the problem... :/

"I have been trying to achieve dream lucidity and OBE state from ever since then. "

A very simple exercise for lucid dreaming is to read everything twice, road signs etc... You look at them once, read them outloud, ask yourself if you are dreaming, look away, then look back and read the sign again. If you do this long enough, it becomes a habit. And then, it will start happening in dreams. When it does, the roadsigns will not say the same thing twice. I read this a long time ago in Omni magazine, back around 1987 or so, and I did it, and ...it works! Lucid dreaming is a blast! The key though, is to make it a habit. When you find you start doing it without trying, you know you are achieving the goal, then its all up to your dreams.
I used to love lucid dreaming, although I dont have them often anymore. I was in highschool when I was doing this. As to age of when you can have OBE's...anytime, any age I woukld think. I have only had one obe, so its not something I am very experienced in.

Thanks, I will try that. One thing, though: will it take me twice as long to read a book if I do that?

I saw in a move called Walking Life that one can get accustomed to turning off light switches, so in a dream, when one notices that the light does not respond, one will become concious.

What is the difference between lucid dreaming and OBE, anyway?

lol Stick with signs and simple things like that when it comes to reading things twice, maybe a paragraph of a book. The idea is to do it every chance you get, like when you ride a bus to school, all the stop signs and billboards along the way.

Lucid dreaming is being able to know and be aware that you are dreaming while its happening, like becoming concious during a dream. You can watch your dream unfold, and some people are able to actually take control of thier dream and wander around. I was never much good at that part, if I tried to go against the dream I would wake up most of the time.

OBE's are when the spirit leaves the body and floats above it or floats off to other areas.

Some cultures would view OBE's as a part of lucid dreaming I would think. Like some native americans see dreaming as the actual living and living as the dream. Its called a lot of things, dream walking etc.

OBE's are different from astral travel too. Astral travel is leaving the body and entering the astral realm, which is like another dimension. Astral travel is where you would meet other beings that live in the astral plane. Often times guides and dream teachers can be met there.

I believe that a lucid dream could probibly lead to an OBE, and an OBE could lead to astral travel. Am sure you could get a lot of opinions on that one.

Now would my 'spirit' actually exist in reality during an OBE? Or is it just in my mind? Would it affect people who are awake (i.e., would they percieve the 'spirit' as a ghost or would they sense its presence somehow
)?
