Sat Marks the Spot, Uncovers Pirate Weapons Haul

It’s yet another example of how commercial imagery satellites are allowing private citizens to gather intelligence in ways that only government-funded spies could do before. George Mason University doctoral candidate Curtis Melvin uses such snapshots form space to plot out North Korea’s military bases. The News of Pakistan found pictures of U.S. drones parked on Pakistani runways — in a Google Earth cache.

I think that it is kinda cool how the little guys, us, are using high technology that was once only controlled by the government to do some spying of our own. It would be great to have a group of normal people, who could invest in one of these private satellites like buying stock, and have unlimited use of them unhampered by any government. Of course, Im sure the Feds would figure out a way to tax space so that this would be way too expensive to do.
