I don't know about my next 2 but number 1 would have to be "Bare Necessities" from Disney's Jungle Book. For me, it's the original don't worry, be happy song.

There are two which have helped me through some very scary times.

They are (I think) the 23rd Psalm ('The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want. He leads me through the Valley of Death', etc)

and another .. not sure what it's called, but again, it's from childhood, goes like this: ' All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small ... the Lord God made them all ... '

they really have helped me through what at the time did seem like the valley of death. They've just sprung into my mind and I've hummed them, silently or in a whisper, over and over, until I've emerged on the other side. My little lifesavers which serve the dual purpose, to my mind, of consigning my soul to God, regardless of what might happen to me

More Than A Feeling > BOSTON
If You Leave Me Now > CHICAGO

I have a profound interest in music, and I find it enormously difficult to be decisive over anything of a mediocre interest. But these two songs are my most favourite of all time so I'm putting them in my 'Survival Playlist'. Yer, the second one's a bit sappy, but I'm sure it fits in on some level.

Also,

Don't Stop Me Now > QUEEN

All I'd be able to picture during this song is the scene from Shaun of the Dead when they're standing around the zombie hitting it in synchronised motion with the music. It's effing hilarious

_____________________________________________________________________

FOR THE AFTERMATH:

New Slang > THE SHINS

The biggest chill song of all time.

Here On My Own > U.N.P.O.C

Because it's ironic

So by thinking that my name is ironic, you're basically saying that pot smokers don't think much....humm, what a weird knowledge you have there.

I'm not trying to start a debate or anything here, I want to clarify what you're saying.

Die for Your Government by Anti-Flag ~angry motivating song to remind me why we are in this mess.
Past the Point by Tilt encouraging song

I need one more happy forget about my troubles type song, I'm gunna have to put some more thought into this one.

I'll be taking at least to MP3 players with me. So that I'll have a second when the batteries run out on the first. It would be great if they had a crank radio that also had MP3 capabilities.

Good thread.

And mine would be

1. Survivalism - Nine Inch Nails.
Because it gives me energy and reminds me that I am bigger than whatever tries to attack me. Listening to this song, I could face an army and know that even if I died, I stood for something.

2. Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley.
Simply because I couldn't live without this song in my life. It reminds me of someone I love very much.

3. Colourful - Rocco DeLuca & The Burden.
It's travelling music. It's the kind of song that makes me feel positive about things, and reminds me of a lot of amazing people.

Aw heck, I -have- to add these two:

Out of Control - Hoobastank

Lyrics of Hoobastank's song "Out Of Control"

I've done everything as you say
I've followed your rules without question
I thought it would help me see things clearly
But instead of helping me to see
I look around and it's like I'm blinded

I'm spinning out of control
Out of control
I'm spinning out of control
Out of control

Where should I go?
What should I do?
I don't understand what you want from me
Cause I don't know
If I can trust you
I don't understand what you want from me

I feel like I'm spinning out of control
Try to focus but everything's twisted
And all along I thought you would be there
(Thought you would be there)
To let me know I'm not alone
But in fact that's exactly what I was

I'm spinning out of control
Out of control
I'm spinning out of control
Out of control

Where should I go?
What should I do?
I don't understand what you want from me
Cause I don't know
If I can trust you
All of the things you've said to me

I may never know the answer
To this endless mystery

Where should I go?
What should I do?
I don't understand what you want from me

Is it a mystery?
Is it a mystery?

I'm spinning out of control
Out of control
I'm spinning out of control
Out of control
I'm spinning out of control
Out of control
I'm spinning out of control...

Where should I go?
What should I do?
I don't understand what you want from me
Cause I don't know
If I can trust you
All the things you've said to me

And I may never know the answer
To this endless mystery

Where should I go?
What should I do?
I don't understand what you want from me

I'm spinning out of control
Out of control

And

She's Country - Jason Aldean

You boys ever met a real country girl
I'm talkin true blue, out in the woods
down home country

Verse 1
Shes a hot little number in her pick-up truck daddy's sweet money done jacked it up
Shes a party all-nighter from South Carolina
a bad mama-jama from down in Alabama
Shes a ragin cajun, lunitic from Brunswick,
juicy Georgia peach, with a thick sounthern drawl, sexy swing and walk

Chorus
Brother she's all country(shoot)
from her cowboy boots to her down home roots
She's country, from the song she plays to the prayer she prays
Thats the way she was born and raised, she ain't afraid to stay country
Brother she's country

Verse 2
A hell raisin sugar when the sun goes down mama taught her how to rip up the town
Hunny drippin' hunny from a hollar in Kentucky, gets ya flippin kinda trippy like a Mississippi hippy
She's a Kansas princess, crazy mother trucker, undercover lover, thick sounthern drawl, sexy swingin walk

Chorus
Brother she's all country(shoot)
from her cowboy boots to her down home roots
She's country,
from the song she plays to the prayer she prays
Thats the way she was born and raised, she ain't afraid to stay country
Nuthin' but country

Brother shes country
from her cowboy boots
to her down home roots
nuthin' but country, yeah yeah

(thick southern drawl)
(sexy swing and walk)
(aw show em how a country girl does it now)

She's country(shoot)
from her cowboy boots to her down home roots
she's country, from the song she plays to the prayer she prays
That's the way she was born and raised, she ain't afraid to stay country
Yeah she's nothin but country, she's all about the country

From the backwoods
Shes home a grown
Down to the bone
She's country
