There is nothing to freak about really, unless you're hung up on materialism, and what is wrong with changing our ways, taking a little bit of the old belief systems and creating a new one that is more about looking inside rather than to the skys, but yet carries the same basic principle of the old, look after one another.

....and Religion is a trap for people incapable of critical thinking. Religion is for those who are not motivated enough to search for their own answers!!!

Actually people involved in 'religion' are seeking answers about many things in life. An excellent preacher will encourage his followers to study science, math, geography, statistics, etc. because it all relates to creation, the universe, relationships with one another and so many other things to give them a broader view of their own existance and formulate answers or
opinions to the mysteries we all have encountered.

I don't belong to any religious group and I don't go to church, however I study scripture and my conclusion is there is a supreme being who created all matter. I can't prove this is the way it is....I can only say that this is my stand as a result of what I have studied.

I am personally looking forward to the 2012 movie - not just for the special effects but also to see what line Hollywood is pushing. As a recent visitor to the offical Sony movie site I was flabbergasted to see the IHC being pushed upon ignorant and impressionable readers (myself included) as a legitimate organisation. I did some research and what did I find? Another Hollywood hoax designed to instill fear into the hearts of innocent movie goers. Have a read of The Institute for Human Continuity (IHC) - Hoax or Real Deal?

I'm looking forward to the 2012 movie as well . I was talking to my boss today about it and told him that he and his wife (also my boss) and me and my husband should all go see it together and go out to dinner afterward. You have to admit it's truly fascinating... whether or not the Mayan chart was interpreted correct or not.

All these doomsday events (fact or fiction) really gets us to think about what we'd do or how we'd react if something of this nature actually happened. Special effects...yea..I like these features...3-D would even be better!

We won't have too long before December 21st, 2012 is here and then we'll know the truth.. As for the present, I'm focusing on our hurricane season since I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and that is my concern.

Do you even know what "New Age" is. I Doubt It.

"The New Age (also known as the New Age Movement, New Age spirituality, and Cosmic Humanism) is a decentralized Western social and spiritual movement that seeks "Universal Truth" and the attainment of the highest individual human potential. It combines aspects of cosmology, astrology, esotericism, alternative medicine, music, collectivism, sustainability, and nature. New Age spirituality is characterized by an individual approach to spiritual practices and philosophies, while rejecting religious doctrine and dogma.

The New Age Movement includes elements of older spiritual and religious traditions ranging from atheism and monotheism through classical pantheism, naturalistic pantheism, and panentheism to polytheism combined with science and Gaia philosophy: particularly archaeoastronomy, astronomy, ecology, environmentalism, the Gaia hypothesis, psychology, and physics. New Age practices and philosophies sometimes draw inspiration from major world religions: Buddhism, Chinese folk religion, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism; with particularly strong influences from East Asian religions, Gnosticism, Neopaganism, New Thought, Spiritualism, Theosophy, Universalism, and Western esotericism.[2] Additional phrases which may refer to the New Age Movement include All is One[3] and Mind-Body-Spirit.[1]

The modern New Age Movement emerged as a distinct lifestyle from the late 1960s through the early 1970s, although elements can be traced back to the 19th and early 20th centuries. It gained momentum in the 1980s and strengthened with the Harmonic Convergence event in 1987. Diverse individuals from around the world practice New Age spirituality."

Sounds Great... Perhaps you should Convert. Oh and BTW, New Age is an Ages Old Term... LOL

"Origins
See also: List of Neopagan movements, List of new religious movements, and List of religions and spiritual traditions

The term New Age was used as early as 1809 by William Blake who described a belief in a spiritual and artistic "New Age" in his preface to Milton: a Poem. The Freemasonry journal of the 1800s was titled The New Age.[citation needed]

Some of the New Age Movement's constituent elements appeared initially in 19th century metaphysical movements: Spiritualism, Theosophy, and New Thought; also, alternative medicine movements chiropractic and naturopathy.[3][1] These movements in turn have roots in Transcendentalism, Mesmerism, Swedenborgianism, and various earlier Western esoteric or occult traditions, such as the hermetic arts of astrology, magic, alchemy, and Kabbalah. The term New Age was used in this context in Madame Blavatsky's book The Secret Doctrine, published in 1888.[4]

A weekly journal of Christian liberalism and socialism titled The New Age was published as early as 1894;[5] it was sold to a group of socialist writers headed by Alfred Richard Orage and Holbrook Jackson in 1907. Other historical personalities were involved: H. G. Wells, George Bernard Shaw, and William Butler Yeats; the magazine became a forum for politics, literature, and the arts.[6][7] Between 1908 and 1914, it was instrumental in pioneering the British avant-garde from vorticism to imagism. After 1914, publisher Orage met P. D. Ouspensky, a follower of G. I. Gurdjieff, and began correspondence with Harry Houdini, becoming less interested in literature and art, with an increased focus on mysticism and other spiritual topics; the magazine was sold in 1921. According to Brown University, The New Age "... helped to shape modernism in literature and the arts from 1907 to 1922."[8]"

Honestly RG.
If someone believes contrary to yourself, the answer is not to accuse them of being naive.

It is not about beliving "contrary to myself", but about being tricked.

dictionary definition of naive:

1.Lacking worldly experience and understanding, especially:
a. Simple and guileless;
b. Unsuspecting or credulous
2. Showing or characterized by a lack of sophistication and critical judgment: (source)

Back to you:

Faith comes in many flavours.

Even faith is based on something.

If I manage to convince you that I own the brooklyn bridge, and you belive me, is that faith ? I suppose you could say it is.

If a friend of yours comes along and warns you that you are being tricked, and I say to him "Respect the man`s faith !", would you like that ?

Common bro, have faith ! Give me all your money, and I will sell you that bridge, and then you can tax every car that passes on YOUR bridge and you will be RICH ! RICH ! RICH !

I UNDERSTAND FAITH !

In the proccess of placing our faith in something we must pay close attention so that we do not to get lied to !

So I say once again respect their faith and you may find it reciprocal.

There is your mistake.

Critical thinking must come before faith, and it must search the proposed faith and filter out any inconsistencies it finds.

It is foolish to rush forward and place your faith blindly without double checking first.

This thread is not about faith but about critical thinking, avoiding being tricked by pseudo-evidence, and mind control tricks, etc

And especially about looking at the evidence yourself, instead of just assuming those people have it figured out just because they say they do.

What's the point of arguing about this kind of a thing?

Hahaha, good question man.

You see, if you start to disregaard your critical thinking in one area, you will get into the habit of doing it in every area of your life.

You cant be naive for half an hour, and smart the next half. It carries over.

rebranding of the old stuff.

"New" age is not new at all.

It is thoiusants of years old.

You think crystals, horoscopes, ascended masters, channeling, wicca, nature worship, visualisation, meditation, etc were invented now ?

It is a rebranding, thats all it is.

It combines aspects of cosmology, astrology, esotericism, alternative medicine, music, collectivism, sustainability, and nature.

aaa, yes, collectivism, I forgot about that.

What it means is to confiscate all private propriety.

And you say new age is new... ha ha ha, which part of it is new ?

...seeks "Universal Truth" and the attainment of the highest individual human potential....

You are confusing the self help industry wit the new age stuff.

Sure, the new age "gurus" try to mimick te self help industry, and it looks pretty convinving for an outsider, but they are two totally diferent things.

Tony Robins has nothing to do with "new age" stuff, yet he is the most successfull guy in the "human potential" movement that actually achives results.

Tony Robbins uses NLP, psychology, etc, and not crystals, vibrations, etc

The other "guy" that can claim similar results is Jesus (except I dont know if you can put him in the "human potential movement", but he certainly is "self help".)

I mention Jesus here because many people say they have overcome addictions to drugs, alcohol, etc with his help.

But Jesus isnt new age either.

The term New Age was used as early as 1809 by William Blake who described a belief in a spiritual and artistic "New Age" in his preface to Milton: a Poem. The Freemasonry journal of the 1800s was titled The New Age.

"The Freemasonry journal of the 1800s was titled The New Age."

LOL, do i even have to comment on this one ?

Some of the New Age Movement's constituent elements appeared initially in 19th century metaphysical movements: Spiritualism, Theosophy, and New Thought;

Do you know anything ?

Spiritualism as as old as the bible. It was called "consulter with familiar spirits" or necromancer (this is not a joke).

Some of the texts in the Bible and in the jewish Torah date from 5000 years ago (3000 BC)

And suprise surprise, look at what they contain google bible + necromancer) :

From the book of Leviricus:

'Do not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.

From the book of Deuteronomy:

Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter ina the fire,
who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells,
or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.

the theories either provoke

A SENSE OF FEAR

OR A SENSE OF LOVE AND PEACE

so basically your still back at the start, and on an even balance with the current world.
SoOOoOooOoo i guess our 2 cents doesn't matter, and becomes obsolete.

Well, everything say 2012 is going to happen.
Every know historical figure say some thing will happen.

Even the Great Merlin said it, nostradamus say so, Maya say so..

the secret lies in the 8 spoked wheel..... it is empty now, meaning we need to make the chioce, or fail completely ...

I disagree. I'd call the whole 2012 business a hoax/fairytale made of equal parts fear mongering, sensationalism, creative license and greed.

And most certainly every known historical figure did not say something was going to happen. If by the "Great Merlin" you mean the fictional character of King Arthur fame... that's fiction.

And Nostradamus is known for being so vague with his quatrains that they can be interpreted in any number of ways.

The mayan calendar is just that... a calendar.. not a predictor of doom.

its not just 2012.. its pretty much everywhere you go.. TV, radio, news, movies, internet.. its all fear propaganda.. and it is a VERY powerful and technologically friendly weapon.

for our purposes here, lets just agree to agree that your personal peace and sense of well being is the most important thing as well as your most powerful tool as a person living in these times and all times for that matter.. (ever heard someone say the human mind is the most powerful weapon ?) now people will say all kinds of things about whats most important to them, money, health, family, faith, happiness, BUT it all comes back to this core.. whether you realize it or not.

Now, that is the very thing that "They" are trying to strip from you.. and i see it EVERYWHERE. it is a running theme in media of all kinds, especially movies, we are being conditioned to feel helpless and powerless, angry and scared.. of what you might ask ? the most consistent theme i see a lot lately in movies and TV is that some faceless nameless evil is after you and you are pretty much powerless over it.. there are also many technical aspects to this that i wont go into.. but thats what "They" want.. they want your peace. and to what end you will say ?? well maybe it could be this religion thing this thread speaks of, some big new soothing super religion option to offer them further control and power ?

but in my opinion once they have the major percentage of the populous in this mode their job will be done.. why you ask ? because at that point, people, countries, will destroy themselves and they wont even have to lift a finger.. if you dont believe me, just watch the news, or the movie eden log, or district 9, or quarrantine.. any of the final destination films... orrr ? people are usually very careful about what they put in their stomachs but most dont care what they let in their mind.. or really even think about it..
