I know that I only have one picture but, I tried my best for you guys. I was able to snap one with my dying cell phone. ... This picture was taken on my G1 T-mobile cell phone. Maybe this has been mentioned but it was chinese new year very recently and the chinese traditionally send up some lanterns like this



Could this be what you saw but at a distance and maybe a slight variation with a tail maybe, from your picture.

There is NO picture.
