United States military and TV /Movie endorsements

First off sorry if this is in the wrong forum i didn't know if it should be here or the Secret bases forum. Anyway I read the other day that for the movie Independence Day was going to be endorsed by US military by providing personnel, vehicles, and costumes for the film; however, they backed out when the producers refused to remove the Area 51 references from the script. But on the other hand the SciFi TV show Star Gate SG1 has complete air force approval for the whole production run. Even though the show is nothing but secret underground bases, area 51 and battling aliens on far away planets. Now my question is why would the army be much for strict then the air force. Why would they support one show over the other? So what are your thoughts on this?

The answer seems rather obvious... so obvious, in fact, that the question itself is shown to be very important.
