.... of course this concept has been presented in such movies as " the sixth sense" and " the others" .
However the reason I ask this stems from an experience I had over a year ago. I had an accident and had to be revived by paramedics and eventualy doctors in the hospital. In and out of a coma for hours.
.... The strange thing is, ... when I finally came to, I had no recollection of any of the events leading up to my " accident" ..... as far as I remembered I had been at home laying down watching tv. .... when in fact I had been out the whole night with friends, staying the night at someones house.
..... but why didnt I remember any of that ?? .... If I had not been revived, ... and died there, .... would I simply have woken up at home the next morning, .. and continued to live my life as my subconscious saw fit ???

.... how would we truly know if we are actualy dead ? would it come in strange coincidences ?? .... words and phrases thrown together randomnly to get our attention ??? ..... or perhaps even a thread on a website we visit regularly ??

..... how could we know ? ..... and finally, how do you wake up ?

Ah now there is a great pondering. If we die, how do we know that we are dead?

Do we always know we are dead? If we die but do not know it, I would assume that perhaps that is where ghosts come from.

Is there any credence to such movies as The Sixth Sense and The Others?

I imagine so, But what I wonder, is there something in us that triggers the knowledge of us being dead? If that something malfunctions what happens?

Well I assume we would do our best to carry out our "life" just the way we did before we died.

What is it that triggers this knowledge that we are dead? I wonder if you die suddenly and unexpectedly will you know? For example lets say you are walking down the street and out of no where a crazy guy comes up and shoots and kills you before you even have time to realize it. Do we just get up and walk off thinking we were just inconvenienced by this crazy guy?

Good question. You have given me alot to ponder over.

I like this idea.

Thing is, I was wondering the same thing about myself the other day.

"Am I a ghost?"

I haven't gone through any traumatic events leading to me waking in a hospital, but never the less, had that string of thought.

But in a way, I guess we can think of all of us as ghosts, in the sense of "What if?"

Ex: What if, in some parallel Earth Plane (or it doesn't even have to be Earth, what if a Parallel Plane to ours is a compeletly different type of planet with different types of life??)

ANWAY,

What if, on a different plane, our physical interactions here, had some small effect on THEIR plane.

Such as, when we are walking, they can hear footsteps etc.

That is just an idea.

I would swear that my apartment has a haunt.

Nothing scary, just walks around every now and then and knocks on things.

Anyway, to my fellow ghosts...

Peace out.

But if we can react, physically, with the 6 billion others on the earth, how would we be a ghost.

Does that mean to say, everyone is a ghost? How do you explain births?

Well no, I have a job. How do you explain all the people that talk to me when I serve them at the counter?

You could be a very convincing person.

There are many definitions of GHOSTS. Not all of them concern the disembodied.

Then you could be a ghost. Are people talking to you, or at you?

.... do people not talk to you in dreams ?? .... do you not completely interact as though everything is normal ?? as if the dream is real ?? ..

... I know dreams and the afterlife are different subjects, ... yet I only bring it up to illustrate the concept of " perceived reality "

... the subconscious is a very powerful thing.

"I think, therefore I am". This thread reminds me of that quote, and how a person can only prove their own existence, no one else's.

What do you mean, exactly? This is an interesting idea to think about.

Heh, what if we're the ghosts and the ghosts are actually real people? What if shadow people are scared of us 'cause we're haunting them instead of the other way 'round?

That's a complete mindfizzu-damnit, I forgot about this whole swearing circumvention thing.

I had a thought similar to that. I wondered if there could be other consciousnesses that live their own lives inside our brain that we can't access? We know about the subconscious, but that just "seems" to be normal, but what if there's a conscious ABOVE our own and we are THEIR subconscious?

I'm not a Doctor obviously so it's probably not possible.

Ghosts don't even exist. If ghosts exist at the same time as reincarnation and aliens the only logical conclusion is the demons are still at it and manipulating people into thinking there is life after death and you become some floating spirit with unfinished business, or that we are being "visited.' Reincarnation is a lie and taught by some of the aliens thus proving they are nothing but demons.

Simply that perhaps we are ghosts. Not in the sense that Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray come chasing after us, but in the sense that we are incomplete human beings.

We kind of just drift about, and to the observer we are some nebulous mass who they occassionally collide with and vice versa. Existentially speaking, of course.

So talking at you means that the person is just expressing that collision (e.g. "Get me a glass of water.") rather than talking to you (e.g. making a connection).

So, I would say, using a very broad definition of ghost, you could be one.

Sure, but that is a psychological thing. You can blame TV and Internet for that.
I don't see how that is proof that one could be dead or a ghost?

I wonder the same things sometimes. I'm a 21 year old female and I feel old. I don't look old, I have an adventurous life and all but I feel like.. maybe my soul is much older than my body. I matured at a very, very young age (mentally) and I just wonder if that could have anything to do with this ghost theory.

But then again, I could just be spending too much time researching ancient societies so.. haha. But I like the thread, it gave me something new to ponder!

Edit to add - You know some people call souls ghosts. Like that anime Ghost in the Shell. Something else to think about!

I think people are thinking more or less as if, we had a traumatic event at say 11 and we're in acoma, and we don't know if we're asleep or awake, if this is real or a dream. Who knows.

Although I don't believe in ghosts, when you do die, you go somewhere, it's call fungi eating you along with microorganisms decomposition, then someone else gets your atoms!

It's really beautiful although, I believe I know exactly what death is like, it's like the time before you were born.
You were nothing, but disorganzied atoms, then your mom ate alot and made you from extra atoms!

How do we know if anything at all is real? All we can be certain of is that this moment that we're experiencing right now is real; the past is just memories which could be forged and the future is, well, the future.

I guess my point is that you or I could be a ghost who simply imagines our existence as a real person.
