Aussie senator: 'Global warming is not real'

www.news.com.au

* Senator says global temperatures aren't rising
* Won't risk jobs to force curb on emissions
* Makes it harder for Government's scheme to pass

FAMILY First senator Steve Fielding has made up his mind on global warming - there's not enough evidence that it's real.

After talks with the government and top scientists, Senator Fielding, whose vote could be crucial in passing the Federal Government's plan to put a price on carbon emissions, has released a document setting out his position.

"Global temperature isn't rising," it says.

Yeah he's back again. Good to see he hasn't changed his mind. Front page article too! If only more people would take this seriously. He is right, there is not enough evidence to support global warming. Hopefully more politicians will see the light and support him. What are your thoughts about this and global warming?

Well, he's a politician. So he must be totally trustworthy, knows everything there is to know, and absolutely telling the truth. Right?

How embarrassing.

Hurricane Katrina is proof of Global warming.

Look at the small pacific islands that have abandoned homes because the sea has risen.

You stand outside on a summers day in Perth and tell me the sun isn’t biting more than it use to.

Why do we have Elnino ( or how ever you spell it ) every year lately?
I think we are at the moment a THIRD of our average rainfall.

I believe Global warming is REAL.
I dont believe humans are 'solely' to blame, but its there.

when one goes against the many, I put my faith in the one.
Obviously he is going against a popular trend which means he is more about truth than point scoring.

i believe man may play a minor roll in climate change, but it is not the primary factor.. i believe the sun is the major factor. im no expert on this matter. but i have heard decent arguments for this.
i do think its great we are moving to a more greener society, much love to mother earth.
but all the fear about climate change which is coming out, and the belief that we are solely responsible for destroying the earth, is disturbing, and could be used to suit an agenda, like carbon taxes for example. there has been a massive push to this belief of climate change without proper study and evidence. i believe we are just experiencing a cycle of some sort, and what we are seeing with ice caps melting etc is due to this cycle

i dont know how reliable of a concept that is....

but he is a family first member which tends to have a religious base(from my own experience at least), which tends to go against the global warming thing. it might just be that simple

I've heard about that emission tax idea, but not sure how would that help global climate aside from enslaving humanity little more.

As far as I know air planes, ships and many factories are the biggest polluters. Implementing a mandatory technology in pollution reduction would solve something, not yet another law charging people something they do every day.

I do think that climate is changing (doh), but I do attribute lots of it to carbon-dioxide pollution. Such pollution on a massive scale has happened before and almost caused complete extinction, but we have a mysterious earth layer as only witnesses to prove that. Meaning that we can assume that we're the ones warming up our planet. Besides, reducing that poisonous substance would greatly improve public health, it would be an enormous change in quality of our life space.

As far as just paying *experts* (e.g. government) to solve the problem, I'm against it as it's only yet another monetary fraud.

Motives for the "unbelievers" are pretty understandable, but one can't just deny everything and hope for the best. Compare yourselves with people of London who would refuse to clean their own crap and junk in front of their houses, only to learn their fatal mistake the hard way.

Remember - CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS.

I understand your sentiments...but many places are experiencing varying ranges/extremes in weather recently......I agree, you cannot put it to man solely, but the weather is changing.

I say, weather changing not warming, I personally do not beleive the world is warming up, there have been many reports how the average tempriture on earth has been cooling in the past decade.

Then again, Melbourne is dry as a bone, last summer was the worst we have had, but go north and I dont remember a single year that has been as wet as it has in queensland.....they are absolutely drenched with dams over flowing whilst we can even get close to average rainfall down south.

I agree with the senator, we do need more evidence, but something is definitely afoot regarding the climate.

There has been climate change on this planet since it has been capable of sustaining a climate model..

It has been proven to have been 2 degrees C warmer overall in my location 2000 years ago because people were growing grapes and the Romans had built towns in areas of the Alps that are now under feet of snow.

And of course the temperature is going to be rising since records began.. we came out of a mini ice age in the 1600's.

The earths shorelines have been changing for billions of years!!

A hurricane is proof of global warming? Have hurricanes not been changing size and direction since the beginning?

GLOBAL WARMING/MANMADE GLOBAL WARMING IS COMPLETELY POLITICALLY MOTIVATED AT THIS STAGE.. IT IS BEING USED IN ORDER TO SCARE US INTO GIVING OUR TAX MONEY AND CREATING CARBON CREDITS TO INVEST IN THE CREATION OF A NEW RENEWABLE ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE.. SIMPLE AS..

While I agree with the new renewable infrastructure.. The lies and propaganda are really annoying me.

Climate change is 100% fact.. Global warming is politically motivated and cannot be trusted.

It looks like this fall and winter will b a El Nino year for the desert southwest of the US and Queensland will be dry.

www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov...

This is what we need in the US southwest and hope it a strong El Nino because we need the rain.

I see nothing wrong with the weather as long as the El Nino does not become permanent.

If EL Nino became permanent the desert southwest of the US would become a tropical rain forest with in 20 years and have a large number of permanent lakes.

If that happened i would believe in global warming. and that is what would happen to the desert southwest if the global temperatures went up by 3 degrees.

Why are the ice-caps melting and why are arctic animals in jeopardy.

This man is a total idiot and he is wrong wrong wrong.

Ehh I wish there was some global warming around my parts . Why is it that this global warming happens everywhere but not in my part of the woods
? Why is it that summers here get colder and colder every year for the past few years ?

I thought global warming meant "global" raise of temperatures and not local

Ice caps are not melting, glaciers are calving off when they reach tropic currents. There is a difference. Climate change is a reality, always has been and always will be. Its called deglaciation technically and for a time, its has come to an end. With the current state of the sun, many have began to think the Dalton Minimum has returned, the same cycle that brought us the Little Ice Age not so long ago. The warming of the earth was not a bad thing, this new solar cycle will be. Folks, the sun controls climate on earth. PERIOD. CO2 rises as the RESULT, naturally.

Where is the proof that global warming caused katrina. You are just trying to sell your argument on an emotional level like al gore about polar bears.

The levees where broken and thats what caused katrina to be such a big disaster, but of cause carbon emissions some how destroyed those too.

I think the most pertinent point here is that was being looked at to introduce a price on carbon emissions and for once a politician has said no about a new tax.

I'm pretty awe-struck just by that one point. A politician who isn't solely a money grabbing basta..

Species have always come and gone, its part of the cycle of life here on earth.

Polar Bears are not dying out, say scientists in book on popular 'scare stories'

But even if they are going, its part of life, and not man made global warming. There is no proof that tghe little energy we put in the atmosphere changes anything like on the scale you say.

I dont believe humans are 'solely' to blame, but its there.

Do you not acknowledge the fact that there is more widespread media coverage than at any other point in history? Therefore we have an immediate knowledge of every drought, hurricane, flood etc.

In Britain we are running out of land for development so reclaimed marshland and other unsuitable areas are being built on. Just down the road from where i am now they are building large residential dwellings on the banks of the Thames, land that is always subject to flooding in the winter.
Common sense says that if you build on unsuitable sites you will face undesirable problems.

It was also stated that when the ice caps melt the sea level will rise. I would like to know how this is so, ice is water, it occupies the same space and i believe it still to be the case that if you have a glass filled to the brim with ice and leave it at room temperature until it melts, you will have a glass filled to the brim with water, and no overflow.

There may be some truth in the whole global warming thing but i believe it is being milked by governments and councils for financial gain among other things.

I've heard it could be a solar cycle which is causing the warming. Besides the weather changes all the time, for example

  1. Antarctica use to be a tropical place, now it is only an icy desert
  2. The deserts around the world use to be full of vegetation such as the sahara, simpson etc
  3. The world wide floods from biblical times
