2 Jets escort plane over Niagara Falls - 21 June 2009!

Hey everyone,

I decided to take my folks to Niagara Falls yesterday as they are holidaying here. Anyway, we took the scenic route via Fort Erie, and got to the falls at just after 3pm. Whilst on the people mover (bus) going from the parking lot to the falls, the bus driver out of the blue asks us if we saw the 2 jets earlier on.

She said this occurred around 1pm. Obviously we hadn't as we were at Lake Erie at the time, but I asked her for more details to see if she could fill me in. All she could tell me is that an aircraft was seen coming over the falls, and then was intercepted by two fighter jets, and then escorted west back into Canadian territory.

She couldn't tell me any more. I wanted to start asking people at the Falls, but unfortunately I was with my folks, so I just didn't have the time.

The bus driver couldn't tell me if she had seen any markings / Identification on the tail of the aircraft, and if the fighter jets were Canadian or American. She did tell me that everyone was focused on it at the time, and people were thinking here comes 911 again, but now at Niagara.

As usual, there were PLENTY of people at the falls in summer, and almost EVERYONE has a camera with them. There must be photos of this that exist, and I'm thinking lots of them too. Very good chance that video footage exists as well.

My question is this: Why is there nothing about this at all in the MSM?!

I've been watching Global TV, CBC, CTV, etc and scouring the net, and NOTHING except this from a guy on Twitter:

That's it! That's all I got! A complete blackout of this thing. For those who have ever been to Niagara Falls, you know how busy that place is, and know for sure that there is definitely photos / recordings of this.

Question is, "Why hasn't this been reported somewhere....anywhere?!"

If anyone can help me find anymore on this, please do. It may be nothing..., but from what the bus driver told me (she's been working there since 1971), this was something serious and not on the 'schedule' as such!

There were no incidents reported on this site. If any emergency was declared, or a distress call, it would have been on this site!

Must've been a "PHOTO OP!"

They would know if it was the Air Force One again. It is significantly larger than other commercial aircraft.

IMHO, probably nothing in the news because, wait for it....there was nothing to report.
Someone flying a little Cessna or other small plane, a hobbyist or something, flew too close (for military comfort ) to the border so they escorted the person away.

The Twitter feed said 747! That would have been rather apparent, and would certainly not have been an accident! Of course the Twitter guy could have been mistaken, but I remember during 09/11, the press was discounting everyone who said it was a large jet, the reporters were saying, "They are obviously mistaken, this must have been a small plane."

I can not vouch for it being a 747, but it was a large plane according to the bus driver. I just wish she could have given me more details, but I guess one can't exactly do that whilst driving passengers around.

I can kick myself now for not asking people at the falls if anyone had taken photos of this. It must exist somewhere! There is now way that nobody out of the thousands of tourists / visitors there took photos. Just impossible - I'm hoping I'll find something on the internet pretty soon.

I saw that once while in Arizona a couple of years ago. The plane was like an older very big model and was flying kind of slow. I would say , it is probably an excercise in AF escorting planes...

Have you replied to the guy on Twitter? See if he got any responses? Also, give a quick phone call to one of the smaller police stations and television stations up there. A lot of times, you will get very honest answers from someone before they realize it could be a sensitive issue. Just tell them your mother was scared and you want to calm her nerves. Joke around some, and see what they tell you! If the authorities don't help, get a hold of a journalist in the area, and let them poke around for you!

Sorry, but I just can not believe that anyone would pull that kind of stunt off at Niagara Falls, at around 1pm on a Sunday in Summer. That could only damage the reputation of a major world renown tourist attraction - and could only economically hurt you.

There is plenty of open spaces in Canada and the US to do that kind of training. If it was an exercise, someone needs to get wrapped over the knuckles and very very seriously

Ok, I have emailed Peter Conradi at the Niagara Falls Review newspaper, and hoping to get a response from him fairly soon.

I haven't contacted the guy on Twitter. Firstly, I don't use it, and I'm not going to register. Secondly, he was basically just asking about it, so I don't believe he can help, unless someone else has replied to him.

I was out golfing at the Niagara Falls Golf Course on Sunday when I noticed the low flying plane with 2 fighter jets escorting it. I watched it for a bit until it went out of sight.

To me, it looked very similar to the video of Air Force One over NYC. It didn't look like a military plane but rather a commercial airliner.

It was headed toward the U.S. when the two jets forced it to turn around and head back into Canada.

At one point on it's return into Canada, it almost looked like one of the jets moved above the commercial airliner to prevent it from gaining altitude, but then again, it could have been the angle I was looking at it from.

I'm interested to know what was going on ... just curious that is all.

Thanks for confirming what the bus driver told us! I hope there are more people here that can confirm or add to this either first hand, or maybe from friends or family who may have seen it. (Photos would be great! )

The million dollar question is" What was this all about?"

And, why would something like this not be reported at ALL, in any newspaper? I have been searching this entire morning, and still find nothing

If it was a passenger jet, it must have been w/o passengers - otherwise I would think they would be talking.

There is an american AFB very close to Niagara, when i was at niagara falls a month or two ago, there were two US cargo planes / bombers (couldn't really tell) that took off from the US side and flew over the canadian side, one following the other at a short distance. that was around 8 pm

nothing to report here, probably just training. i'm sure the US has agreements to fly into canadian airspace, they have canada by the balls anyway.

I was in Niagara Falls on Sunday for Father's day. We(my family) saw the plane being escorted by the jet planes.... We took Pictures but they are hard to make out... The one photo is of the plane and the two jets...

I got a video. I was there on Sunday, June 21st. And I was making video for myself. Suddenly I have seen that huge plane with two jets following it. They flew around Niagara Falls. I was thinking that is Obama's plane.
