I'm thinking about using junk I've got lying around to make my pump 12 g. into a bull pup. The barrel is the legal 18.5 inches(USA), but do you think this would make the weapon illegal? I've sawed off half of the butt-stock, which IS legal here, so it'll fit nicely in my arms. I've got the new trigger assembly built, already, but I'd like some opinions on legality before I finalize the mod. I've already checked the state laws, but, as you can imagine, specifics on this type of configuration are not really present.

LAWL, I need to know if it's legal before I can finish. And, remember, it's a prototype, so don't be too judgmental, after all, I did build it from scrap. XD

i wont judge too harshly (unless i build a better one. then expect relentless harassment.

My base gun is an ancient Savage 77b. I can't even buy replacement parts for it any more, so I figure this is a good use for it, but it definitely isn't pretty. For my prototype, I've used hose clamps(to attach a fore-grip.), V8 engine pieces, electrical tape, junk from my old tool chest, and I even used an old punch as a bayonet. It looks like a frankenstein gun.

I've also been customizing ammunition for it. I've got small incendiary rounds, made from paintballs, flash bangs, made with small pouches of black powder, and the ignition source, for both, are those small friction poppers kids by at gas stations. Maybe I've got too much time on my hands...

lmao

are those incendiary rounds legal?

have you tested them yet? does it even work?

i like the sound of your set up tho, are you a trained gunsmith?

Nope, never trained with anything, though I'm starting college next month. I was actually booted from school at 14, home schooled until I was sixteen, then I got my GED, and enlisted in the Marine Corps at 17. After a knee injury, I was given an entry lvl discharge, and now I've decided to become a chemist, or a physicist, if the math isn't too difficult.
As to the incendiary rounds, and their legality, I didn't want to ask any officials, after all, forgiveness is always easier, to attain, than permission. And, yes, they usually work, though, occasionally, they explode before impact(In the barrel), and cause fire to shoot from the gun... No harm to me though, yet!

The trick I've found, is to load them in paper, and fire them from the shortest barrel possible, also, put the poppers behind the petrol-filled paint ball, but still inside the paper wrapping, and, never remove the wadding from the shell! Trust me. XD

wow....your gun sounds badass....like from a movie about a post-apocalyptic world. once its done, see if you can figure out how to make it as vicious looking as possible.

Damn yeah! I like that post-apocalyptic theme. It gives me lots of good ideas... I'm also making some body armor, so, maybe, I can tie them together by a common visual theme.

Not quite, lol, I was thinking about using dozens of layers of cotton, tightly compressed, saturated with polyester resin, then coated in epoxy boat resin. Finally, sand all that down, and make a custom plate carrier.

Well first, from the sounds of your incendiaries, I would work on making safer ones and clean out the internals every time you use them, or residue will build up in there... be wary!
And frankly I do not see the point in making a bullpup shotgun, unless it is clip-fed then yes (like a bullpup Saiga-12, that would make sense!).
Also, I love do it yourself using household items

My justification was simply thus: I wanted a shorter shotgun, but, legally, I couldn't cut any more metal off the barrel, any wayz, it's not breach action, so I do have a magazine, it's just tubular, and limited...
I've thought about cutting a section of garden hose, capping one end, inserting a long spring, attaching it to the magazine feed(At the barrel-end base of the body.), and, there by, effectively giving myself a pump shotgun with lots of bullets in the mag, unfortunately, if the hose bent, the ammo feed would jam...

the poster before me has a good point. bull pup style would be VERY inconvenient with reloading without a magazine.

you could always make one though with a bit of ingenuity.

and i would stay away from dealing with incendiary rounds on a daily basis.

you should probably make your armor fire proof-ish. you could possibly buy body armor that is definitely been tested to be effective.

then you could make it all crazy looking and vicious. add a blade to one of your forearms for a nifty melee weapon.

OR since youre already playing with matches.....what if you made yourself a flamethrower and attach it to your shotgun

Wow... Just.. Wow. Why didn't I think of adding a flame thrower!?! That is an awesome idea, and I've already got one to add!!! It's a simple water gun, which works by sucking accelerants into it's chamber like a huge syringe, and it could easily be adapted to sit under the tube mag on my shotgun! Yes!!! This is going to be the most kick ass, home made shotty on the planet!
And, if I had the cash to buy body armor, I'd totally do that, however, I'm a bit on the broke side of the fence. The flame-resistant armor is also a good idea. I could probably use some thermal resistant polymer on the outside of the plates.
And, the blade is another good idea, or maybe small spikes on the back of my armor to impale anything that tried to choke me out!
Posting this has been a huge help, keep the suggestions coming.

Wow... so it goes from legalise short weapon to how can I make the most impractical video game weapon...
You were worried about legal barrel size but you're not worried about a combination shotgun/flamethrower... I also imagine the jolt of a shotgun would not do well to the pressurisation in the flamethrower... at least in theory.
By magazine I meant like CLIP magazine. That would make sense bullpup. I guess a bullpup pump would be similar to a Neostead from SA.

Yeah, sometimes I get carried away... But, have you ever seen any law against shotgun/flamethrower combo's? I haven't.

well if you are making the armor out of multiple layers of fabric it will probably get hot (especially after the flamethrower makes its presence known) add one of those cooling systems that circulates cool water through thin tubes around your body.

you said you were making incendiary rounds out of paintballs?
what about poison rounds?
or acid?
maybe freon?
killer bee launcher?

silly question here my 45 cal long colt will chamber a 2 1/2 .410 shell
Does that make it an illegal shot gun?

Many firearms actually have aftermarket stocks specifically designed to convert guns to a bullpup configuration. As long as you don't shorten the barrel, you're good to go.

You can even build a gun from the ground up, from scratch, without registering anything and you still aren't breaking the law (unless you're building it to sell.)
