There are times when to stand up for what you believe in you have to stand alone... If your not willing to do that how can you ask others to follow...

Actually, I think you mis-read me just a little.
My moot point is that we are *all* a bit greedy and there is nothing wrong with that.

It's not all or nothing. Greed, in small doses isn't a bad thing. There's nothing wrong with wanting to earn/keep what you work for. It's not all or nothing, just like sociaism.

One of the major problems we have right now is that most of the people who make the biggest money do not work hard at all. The majority of the really rich people have never worked a hard day in their lives and are little more than a blight on the rest of us as they suck more and more capital out of the system. That's a poblem that capitalism cannot solve.

It's what caused the downturn.

If you can think of a non-socalisst way of solving that, I'd love to hear it!

You're absolutely right KAKUSA, can you blame me for not wanting to ruin my life if I have no clue if anyone will even support me?

I'm not willing to do this when I'm in such a harsh point in my life, but only if I know I won't have any company. The very fact that socialism has become the topic of conversation in this thread is point enough that I won't have company.

I still ask the question, to everyone who reads this thread, American or otherwise. If you saw someone in your capital, standing up for what you believe in, would you join them? Be honest with yourself, I'm not asking for the answer anymore.

NONVIOLENT APPROACH:
Start to organize a group, with like minded individuals in real life, meetings, discussions, protests etc.
Get everyone in your group to go and receive the biggest loans you can from any bank franchise you choose, then all default on the loans, dont pay a penny.
My version of the bailout for working class. (this is called Skeetology, the pullout method. haha)
If enough people around the nation do this, it will make them fail. Use the money from everyone's loans, pool it together and start your own community somewhere rural.
I have started a small pocket in my town. it may just be a couple hundred but it is growing. groups all over the nation are gearing up for something that should have already happened. seek out a group near you and join, but try to maintain nonviolence.
But be warned and be careful, as you see on the news, the FBI, Homeland Security, and NWO are also actively seeking out these "terrorist cells"

tread softly but carry a big stick. dont let them take our freedoms laying down.
THe only other option is to fight, which I am trying to avoid, another civil war will be very messy

Sorry BitRaiser, but you're mistaken. What we have today is nothing like free enterprise or free market capitalism. What we have today is corporatism coupled up with cronyism in government...which are the signs of a truly fascist state. Stating that capitalism is to blame is treading a very dangerous path, and inviting a full conversion to fascism that waits just around the corner. That's exactly what TPTB want people to do, abandon the institutions that allow them to provide for themselves and hand over their rights. In all ways, recent legislation in Congress is anti-capitalistic, anti-competition: for example, the Food Safety Modernization Act 2009.
The fascists in business and government want to secure their position and prevent competition. That's not the mark of a capitalist - that's the mark of a corporatist.

When we discuss economic ideology, we talk about "means of production" but very rarely do people ever go into depth about what that means. It's not tools or machinery; if you leave a hammer on a table, its not going to make anything by itself. The real means of production is us. Our intellect, our skills and talents. Capitalism is the only ideology that allows for an individual to own their own productive capabilities. I for one do not want to hand that over to a corporate-political oligarchy, a collective, or the state.

We desperately need true free market capitalism to survive the times ahead; remember as well that capitalism does not need money in order to work properly - it is based on the free exchange of goods and services between individuals, without interference by government. People need to become their own producers again - there needs to be an entrepreneur in every household.

Why do you think the Republicans have touted "free trade" and "free enterprise" so hard? So that its thoroughly demonized, for us to embrace gifting away our rights in exchange for supposed security.

Its all talk and no action.

Personally, i think the Matrix will NOT let us do anything to try to stop anything.

I just started another thread saying we should claim our independence from the US on July 4th. I'm in the DC area tho man i'm definately down I would stand their with you. Pulling back on topic: SkepticPerhaps, you're 100% right. The USA is ripe for revolution...but I don't believe it will happen. I fully believe that we will see fascism and totalitarianism here before there is an uprising from the populace.

Look up the Pareto Principle, or the 80/20 law...I think it even applied during the first American Revolution. To start, 80% of the original colonists wanted to stay as subjects of the British Crown, only 20% wanted to break away and create the only nation in the world to ever be born free. Obviously things changed with the change in attitude of the British government, ordering attacks against the colonists, rooting out "traitors", etc, until the point it became hard to defend their actions.

More than likely what we'll see at first is quiet resistance and a hell of a lot of monkeywrenching, as well as the government trumpeting about "right wing extremism", "domestic terrorist cells", "continuity of governance" and "the need for strength and progress".

However, the more openly tyrannical the government becomes, the more will start to trickle over from the 80%. There will be breakpoints that accelerate this shift - for example, government failing to deliver on healthcare, trying to openly disarm the American people, violence against civilians, etc.

While I am aware that the government ALREADY deploys violence against Americans, it is not widespread enough for the majority of people to be aware of it, and think that it may effect them. There are people who cheered when a cop tasered that 72-year old recently, saying she should have respected the cop's authority; wonder what they'll be saying when its their wife, sister, daughter, mother or grandmother twitching on the floor.

America is about to get a refresher course in not taking freedom for granted, and it will be the biggest wake-up call in history.
