Pakistani tribesmen avenging a mosque attack surrounded two militant strongholds and destroyed the homes of some Taliban commanders, an official said Monday as the death toll in the fighting hit 13.

As many as 1,600 tribesmen have joined a citizens' militia in Upper Dir district — an indication of rising anti-Taliban sentiment in Pakistan as the military pursues its offensive against the militant group in the nearby Swat Valley.

I think this is great news. After reading about the Taliban killing school girls for daring to go to school, it was obvious that this group of religious extremists were the enemy of peace everywhere. While I understand that when the Taliban took over Afghanistan, they were a significant improvement over the warlords that had been ruling the nations, who were basically lawless bands of roaming criminals, the extremism preached by the Taliban isn't that much better.

It shows that given the opportunity people in the Middle East will stand up for what it right.
