unidentified flying object over San Jose, CA 6/6/09

Hello all, this is my first time reporting something like this on ats. Today (June 6th, 2009) I went outside to smoke a cigarette, and I heard what sounded like a jet. I look around, and see nothing. I look around for a few more minutes, and hear it getting louder, but the sound is different (still jet sounding) than earlier. I look at the passing jet, and see a black UFO (Using this term because I cannot classify what type of plane it was). I run inside to grab my binoculars, but I cannot locate it again. About 5 minutes later, I see it almost directly overhead and focus in on it (12x25 bushnell), all I can make out is a sphere/oval shape that is black, clearly outlined against the blue sky in the background. The sighting was around 7:30 pm, so it just happened. I live in the foothills of mount Hamilton near evergreen college, if anyone around here has seen this please post! Also there has been some unusual activity lately, such as on tuesday I saw a black chinook fly over to the mountains, and there was a lot of sirens a few days ago with a lot of low flying planes, but nothing in the paper has come up or in the local news.

Did it look anything like a missile ?

We were up flying in the Bay Area today out of Stanford. There were no reports of unidetified traffic and we transited over SJC

I live over in oakland and I have a buddy that said he saw the same thing. Pretty intersting. I'll call him and if hes home tell him to come on here and post what he saw.

the point is the the air space over the Bay Area is highly controlled and anything without a transponder would get attention from Oakland Center or Moffet FAF

Yeah I know. I don't neccasirily believe my friend, i'm just saying what he told me, i've known him my whole life and don't know him to be a liar but i'm thinking it was just a plane or something he saw. I just called him hes not home I left a message and told him to come post on here when he gets home. This was also around 5 when he called me and told me he saw this so it was a cuople hours before this guys sighting.

It's weird you mentioned that. I travelled to California from England in November of last year, and I saw 2 or 3 of these missile things on that flight. I thought it was odd, but no one else seemed to notice them, and the pilot didn't mention it. It was my first trip to the US, so I assumed that it was a common thing to see such things.

I didn't see any on my return flight, or when I flew back out in April.

Weird.
