This is a subject I have been itching to ask here at ATS. If Aliens were to arrive on planet Earth at some point in time, would the be friendly or hostile toward us?

I personally would think that they would be as scarred of us as we are of them. I would probably ask them to come inside for a hot chocolate.

But it really makes you wonder because we really know what they look like, or what strengths against us they really have.
They could either be super powered mutant creatures that could zap us into thin air, or they could be the most harmless, cute little creatures around!

What do you think and why?

According to Michio Kaku: They will most likely be predatory like humans are.

I only mention Kaku because he is probably the most well known alien life philosopher of these times although he is just one of many to have come to this same conclusion philosophically speaking.

He is a fun person to read up on and listen to if you are interested.

Check this link...

Absolutely have to take this is a thought experiment only though, so please have a grain of salt ready.

Good post.

I have always thought that if aliens came to our planet, they would respect the life upon it. This is because they would surely be technologically advanced enough to realise how scarce life can be in our galaxy.

This alone brings me to think there may be some kind or 'guidance' of our species which is occuring, maybe even now.

I would almost agree with that. I do think that they would be so far advanced that they would not be what we would call a "predator". However I might say they would use these advancements over us in some form of manipulative control for their own gain? Maybe not. Alot of people seem to believe the Bible and many ancient texts were related to Extra terrestrials and it seems the stories always ended with the promise of their return someday. So maybe they would have complete respect and truly appreciate our kind for what it is.

To be honest I don't think they would be hostile towards us... Why would they? Unless we start bombarding them with nukes or other weapons!

And we would, I guarantee it.
The most terrifying thing that could come out of a spaceship, is a human. What do humans do when they come across new lands full of less-advanced humans than themselves? That's right, so I hope and pray that WE are the ONLY humans in the galaxy.
If any aliens ever do turn up here, they had better NOT be hostile, the beings that inhabit this planet are very experienced in the art of war and they have formidable weapons and technologies that only a war-oriented species could think of inventing, i'm sure that humans can, and will, repel any alien invasion or war that comes our way.

well think about it like this

hundreds of years ago the british and all the other european countries colonized africa and the americas. we pretty much wiped out millions of indians, straight up exterminated them. we looked on those people as stupid barbaric ignorant people that lived in tepees.

thats how beings from another planet would see us. we'd likely just be simple creatures too them. we're young as hell still, we've only been flyin in space for like 50 years! thats nothin. the universe is so old.

i would be willing to bet we're on the primitive side of the scale in the universe.

europeans explored africa, discovered america, and we jacked that #.

the british/americans brought out genocide on a massive primitive society.
i think aliens would be likely to do the same.

but i also think that if they were gonna, then they would have already.

so i really dont know

i think their'll be a false alien attack so the world leaders can band all the countries into one government

but deep down, i think they won't be hostile. im sure they research the hell out of us.

think of how excited people would be if we found a hidden group of people seperated from the world for thousands of years but still comin up with technology, some different, some primitive, some completely odd to us. scientists, anthropologists, whatever, i know people would be researchin their balls off

How do you know they don't have weapons of mass destruction? Think how advanced they are to get into space and travel at light years and so fast! Do you not think they would have already created weapons the size of hand guns that could kill a planet in one?

they most definetly have the ability to destroy us

i personally believe we would have no chance if extra terrestrial beings chose to
exterminate us all.

they prolly just gonna show up and beam everyone up at that rapture they were always talkin bout.

Can we *'not'* use terms like "less-advanced" and "primitive" when discussing indigenous people?

NathanNewZealand: New Zealand came across people who had developed a warrior society so strong and suited for the NZ environment that they were able to hold off and beat back the English. Treaty of Waitangi dude. Less-advanced? Nah.

whateverponcho: how could Europeans discover 'America' when there were already people there? Also, Indigenous people are not exterminated, there are indigenous people all over the Americas. Joba Chamberlain for crying out loud.

Just because the western world is a technocracy does not mean non western culture is more primitive or less-advanced. Technocracies only put value in the advancement of technology and nothing else.

Your similar points made in your posts are taken into consideration though.

Hostile all the way. They will be so much more advanced than us that we will not even know harm is being done to us. It will a big game for them. Like putting 2 praying mantis in a jar and watching them kill each other.

This can actually be happening right now.

If you believe in aliens, it's pretty much irrational to believe that aliens are a new phenomenon around Earth, what with cave drawings, paintings, witnesses, etc. for thousands of years. At least, this is my view. With this, we have beings that have been watching us with tech far more advanced, in those long ago days, than we have today. It's only logical to assume, should they have this uber tech, that they knew about atomic energy, lasers, etc. possibly millions of years before us... at least thousands.

Maybe they are waiting for a big feast, but if they were in desperate need of food, pretty sure we would have been eaten by now. Besides, they would have just taken a few cells, and be well on their way to cloning all the food they need. On top of that, why humans when there are soooo many cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, fruits, veggies, etc.?

Pretty sure they are benevolent, at least much more tolerant than we are, but them damned Hollywood flix always got me questioning my intuition... really is sad at times.

I would argue that they would be very similar to humans, in the sense that you would have a wide variety of personalities, opinions, and intentions.

So in that sense, I think that the question of whether they would be hostile or not would be completely up to whatever ran the society that discovered us, or that we discover...just as it would be here on Earth with a nation and government.

Something tells me that there are plenty of both negative/hostile and positive/friendly "aliens". But then again I'm one of those "crazies" who thinks that they've already been here and that there's a good chance we're being watched by both friendly and hostiles as we speak, so what the heck do I know?

You can't say aliens are good or evil.

I think they are just like us ! Some are good and some are not.

Hostile all the way.

Humanity should shoot first ask questions later. If we can't hurt them then befriend them so we can find their weakness in order to take them out and reclaim our position at the top of the food chain.

It would be an educated guess to say that if there is one Alien culture with the advanced technology to visit our solar system then there must be others. Therefore I hope that there will be friendly as well as hostile aliens and that they will protect us from the more violent races. However you never know they could just be toying with us and think of us as primative violent apes with nothing to bring to the party.

P.s If they are hostile then at least we will have Jeff Goldbloom and an 1990`s Mackbook to hack their defences and stage an all out attack, perhaps that is what is keeping them away, thank god for America

We have to assume they are friendly because if not and with a technology sufficient to cross the galaxy then we can also assume if they were hostile and wanted our planet for themselves they would see us as nothing more than roaches and simply have the earth fumigated

The Aliens that come first will be friendly , they will give us answers to all the questions we have about who we are and how we got here.
we will be so taken by them that we will treat them as Gods.

Of course they will not be God, but just the decievers that come before the second arrival. They will be looked at as the enemy.
They will be the ones that we where waiting for to begin with.

God won't give you the answers and everything you ask for, if they do, what is the point of life if all the answers are handed to you?
Just like cheating in a test, you may think you passed, but you know in your heart that you just failed.
