After staying mum on gay marriage through the upholding of California's Proposition 8, the Obama White House has spoken out--sort of.
Yesterday, the President issued a proclamation saying that June 2009 would be Pride Month for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community--by far a most advanced move for an American President.

Forty years ago, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City resisted police harassment that had become all too common for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. Out of this resistance, the LGBT rights movement in America was born. During LGBT Pride Month, we commemorate the events of June 1969 and commit to achieving equal justice under law for LGBT Americans.
LGBT Americans have made, and continue to make, great and lasting contributions that continue to strengthen the fabric of American society. There are many well-respected LGBT leaders in all professional fields, including the arts and business communities. LGBT Americans also mobilized the Nation to respond to the domestic HIV/AIDS epidemic and have played a vital role in broadening this country's response to the HIV pandemic.
Due in no small part to the determination and dedication of the LGBT rights movement, more LGBT Americans are living their lives openly today than ever before. It's dangerous for the government, in a country where bigots abound, but he obviously thinks it's worth standing up for peoples' rights.

This country and its leadership have truly lost their minds. All it is as far as I can tell is a group of gays and a liberal administration throwing the issue into the faces of those who they know it will infuriate.
Pointless political posturing.

Let me preface this comment by saying that Im not a homophobe nor do I harbor any ill will towards gay people in any way.
Nothing personal against gays, but what exactly is there to be proud of?
I choose to sleep with another man, great, but again...is that not a ridiculous and arbitrary thing to be proud of? Is it truly necessary to have an entire month dedicated to the fact that they are gay?
All being gay means is that you choose to have sex with someone of the same sex. Again, what is there to be proud of? If being gay is in fact something you are born with and not a choice then WHY have a month to display pride in something that nobody had a say in?
You dont see blind people demanding a blind pride month, or fat people demanding a proud to be fat month. What the hell is so special about a person choosing to sleep with someone of the same sex? Why does that make anyone special?
