The story: (which I thought was a lame bs waste of time when the news hit it up)
What is on McCain and Obamas's IPODs.

Each campaign released a list of 10 songs, and here they are.

Barack Obama:
1. Ready or Not - Fugees
2. What's Going On - Marvin Gaye
3. I'm On Fire - Bruce Spingsteen
4. Gimme Shelter - Rolling Stones
5. Sinnerman - Nina Simone
6. Touch the Sky - Kanye West
7. You'd Be So Easy to Love - Frank Sinatra
8. Think - Aretha Franklin
9. City of Blinding Lights - U2
10. Yes We Can - will.i.am

John McCain:
1. Dancing Queen - ABBA
2. Blue Bayou - Roy Orbison
3. Take a Chance On Me - ABBA
4. If We Make It Through December - Merle Haggard
5. As Time Goes By - Dooley Wilson
6. Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys
7. What A Wonderful World - Louis
8. I've Got You Under My Skin - Frank
9. Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond
10. Smoke Gets In Your Eyes - The Platters

Obama's songs hint at winning and McCains at losing

Obama's: 1. Ready or Not - Fugees, as in "ready or not here I come"
3. I'm On Fire - Bruce Spingsteen, as in "Damn Im on fire"
6. Touch the Sky - Kanye West, he would do the impossible
10. Yes We Can - will.i.am, "Yes we can- and I will"

McCain's: 3. Take a Chance On Me - ABBA, if people only would take that chance...*tear*4U
4. If We Make It Through December - Implying that they would not
5. As Time Goes By - Dooley Wilson, "as time goes by things look worse and worse"
8. I've Got You Under My Skin - Frank Sinatra, He was under his skin.

Can any of you find more?

It's music from 2 seperate generations. God, ABBA?
Sucked in the 70's sucks now but John's got me by a couple of decades. That said:

7. What A Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong, have any of you listed to this song?

Helluva song. Yup, I'm on that.

Hey, at least neither of them has Body Count on their play list.

I've got it on mine.

McCain has a sliver of good taste in music and Obama doesn't.

Other than that I don't see any conspiracy.

Know if they had some Sabbath, Pantera, Ozzy, Black Label or some Skynard then I would consider them not so weak in the music department.

I would even applaude them if they had some Van Halen (not to be confused with Van Hagar). McCain should have played Hot For Teacher when he announced Palin as his running mate. Say what you want about her, but that is one hot chick for a Grandma.

What about Zep? Purple? Tull? Queen? Electric Mayhem? You'd think they'd have some love for Dr Teeth.

She's 2 years younger than me.
Damn, I've become redundant.

Those are great bands too. I just didn't want to type out all the bands I think are great. It would take to long. I just listed my top 5 bands.

Don't worry about your age, I'm sure your hot in your own masculine way.

Mccain has Dancing Queen?? I never in a million years would've thought..... well it is politics, and they are fairly crazy.

I would of thought Obama would of had Ludacris somewhere on his top 10 seeing as he was 'palling' around with him pre-election.

Two very different generations, this generation is a Democratic one, Republican is in the past, it's the days of progressivists in this era. Soon enough though it'll switch over.

I don't like Obama much, but he does have U2 on his playlist, raises eyebrows, may have a tiny bit more likeability rating for the president, a tiny bit mind you!

LOL! I must agree! Obama's musical taste is not where his mouth is! I make one exception with Nina Simone. Sinnerman was a great song!

The only conspiracy I see here is a conspiracy of bad songs.

I think I might be the only person on earth that thinks U2 sucks. I cannot stand their music.

U2 is so overrated in my book its not even funny. I would rather listen to Macho Man Randy Savage's whole rap album then listen to one U2 song.

Can you dig it, oohh yeeeaaa.

I sported my Morphues shades for a long time. If they hadn't blown off while riding my HD I would still be sporting them.

Nothing said badass like those shades.

Neither listen to Rush. Therefore, both of them suck.

End of story.

I find it funny that Obama has "Gimme Shelter" on his and McCain does not, since you know, the Republican is supposed to be for war and what not. I mean c'mon the chorus for "Gimme Shelter" is "War! Children, it's just a shot away!"..."Rape! Murder, it's just a shot away!". Great song to have on top 10 IPOD play list when your promoting an anti-war view point. Doesn't anyone else see the irony in this?
It's a good song, but if I were running/was the President of the US and promoting anti war, I would not have that song on my play list knowing people would be looking at it.

Thats an anti war song. Don't take the words literally, listen to the meaning and you will see what the song is about.

Well possibly, but up until the very end when he states "Love, Sister, it's just a Kiss Away" there is no reason for me to believe this is an anti war song. If anything the song just demonstrates how easily we can love or destroy ourselves. "Imagine" & "Give Peace a Chance" by John Lennon now those are true anti war songs.
The Rolling Stones to me were anything but peaceful, they hired Hells Angels for security at one of their concerts for goodness sake! Someone got stabbed!

Take from it what you want. Just because its not talking love and peace the whole song doesn't change the fact that it is an anti war song. It just requires you to think.

War Pigs- Sabbath
Symphony of Destruction- Megadeth
Rooster- Alice in Chains
One- Metallica
American Woman-The Who
B.Y.O.B- SOAD

All those are widely known songs that are anti war songs. Unless you listen to the meaning, one would not realize that is what they are.

As long as neither of them have Miley Cyrus or Ashlee Simpson, I think the world is a much safer place.

I'm surprised neither has Dream Police or Every Breath You Take. Seems like it'd be right up their alley.

I'm just saying that those songs of Lennon's were more directly aimed at the Vietnam War than "Gimme Shelter" was, it would make sense to me that a president promoting peace would have chosen to promote one of those songs or even "War" rather than "Gimme Shelter" for the reason that the meaning is not as clear. I never really got the feeling the stones were really anti war in the first place, I feel like they kind of liked chaos, so it doesn't make much sense for me that "Gimme Shelter" was a full on anti war song.

I think all that "Gimme Shelter" is, was a commentary on the world they lived in with the hope for love at the end. It is true that one takes from a song what they want and that's all I get from it. Now the question becomes does Obama take it literally or metaphorically? I would think the later but your never know.

Please stay on topic, this has little to do with their musical taste.

It has just as much to do with the topic as pretty much everyone else's reply.

How about let the moderators decide what is off topic and what isn't? Thanks.
